Rosa de Sao Jose of Vila Franca do Campo, Sao Miguel

I have just spent the whole weekend looking for the birth record of Rosa de Sao Jose. Her marriage and last two childrens records mention her parents names and that they were also from Vila Franca.  STill I could not even find OTHER  children born to her parents Antonio de Sousa and Anna Monis.  I have attached my family group sheet should anyone on the list match to Rosa or her parents.

I think I have a couple of leads for you. I have, Antonio de Sousa Gois or Goes cc Ana Maria do Sacramento, Vila Franca Matriz; The paternal grandmother of this Ana is Ana Moniz cc Bento Cardoso da Silva, in Ponta Garca, March 18- 1695. So this may be a match.

I also have Manuel de Sousa cc Escolastica Rosa, married in VF Matriz, Aug 4- 1782. Said Manuel is stated to be native of Fenais da Vera Cruz and his parents are Antonio de Sousa and Ana Moniz. 

Since you have already looked in Vila Franca for children, maybe start looking in Fenais da Ajuda (aka Fenais da Vera Cruz). Or even for the marriage.

Rosa's parents names were always found as Antonio de Sousa and Ana Monis. Cheri,  I couldn't find ANY marriage in Vila Franca for them.Thanks John, I will check this information tonight after work and look for common clues with the info you now gave me.

It just so happens I was looking in Fenais just yesterday. I think these are the right people, as Antonio de Sousa is native of Vila Franca, while Anna Moniz is native of Fenais da Vera Cruz.

And it so happens this Moniz line links to the Braga line. Will send it to you privately.

Thanks John . No where in any documents I had did it mention Fenais but it makes sense since I was looking through years and years for them but couldn't find a Ana Monis!! Like I said.. I will comb through what I have again and check this out later. You are the best!!

Hi Terri,
I happened to be looking through baptisms in Matriz, Vila Franca do Campo, yesterday and saw a baptism of Luzia, daughter of Antonio de Sousa and Anna Moniz. I remember the names because I checked if they were in my tree. I just looked again and In fact Anna Moniz is from Fenais da Vera Cruz and Antonio from Matriz, Vila Franca. Luzia was born 6 Dec 1759.

This is a breakthrough for sure! Thanks for finding this one because it's the ONLY record in Matriz Vila Franca that mentioned Anna was from somewhere else!
