I am trying to gather more information regarding an ancestor of mine, she is named Cecilia Manuel, and she was born around 1589, and died on 01/04/1654, in Cedros, Horta, Ilha do Fayal, Azores, Portugal.

It was mentioned that her son Domingos Gonçalves kept her will.

My doubts are:

1. How can I get this will? Anyone has it?

2. Some sources mentioned who was her father, but from where they gathered this information? Does anyone has another documentation from her?

Here is a key piece of information I found about her potential father, Baltazar Manuel da Costa:

"BALTAZAR MANUEL DA COSTA, casou com Beatriz Vaz de Sousa, filha de Martim Vaz (34) e de Beatriz Afonso, sua mulher, que dizem alguns genealogistas ser descendente de João Afonso das Grotas Fundas, sem contudo o comprovarem. Fez testamento a 4 de Fevereiro de 1554 e 1565 pelo qual vinculou. Deixou descendência que usou de preferência os apelidos COSTA, REZENDE e MANUEL (35), e foi tronco dos morgados da Pedra Cagada no Faial da Terra (36)."

The genealogy of João Afonso das Grotas Fundas has been extensively researched already, not without controversy. Apparently, I descend from him through a different line (Fagundes then Jacome), but I'll be honest with you, I do not understand the fascination with this character, so that's pretty much all I know. Many people from S. Miguel descend from him because he was one of the first settlers and had many children.
