Hi Luacy,
There is a some good documentation on them on FamilySearch. Most church records from Rio de Janeiro are digitalized and, every month, I see more and more documents being indexed.
From Matheus parents above, you can find in the Marriages Terceira Island Index. I can see that e.g. Antonio Cardoso Toste and Catarina Vitorina married in Ribeirinha, Terceira, in 1832 (Lv. 5, Fl. 127).
I have also Toste (in Brazil changed to Tosta) from Terceira. Do you have a GEDMATCH?
My 3rd great-grandfather was Francisco José Tosta (Born on 23 March 1831, baptized on 4 April 1831, Santa Luzia, Angra do Heroísmo). We do not have his passport record either, but in Brazil he got married to Amélia Henriqueta de Miranda Maia in Rio de Janeiro, on 28 December 1861. He is the son of José Toste and Marianna do Carmo, both from Santa Luzia. I could trace my "Toste", in Angra do Heroísmo, up to Domingos Mendes Lourenco and Maria Toste (abt. 1635).
