My great grandfather (immigrant) was Jacinto Leite De Amaral.   I have 2 different birth dates for him both in 1855, and indications point to Sao Miguel.

Today I find this baptism, but I am really struggling to read it.   The format is a lot different than most I have looked at and a lot of different names appear.  It is also 1854, but hey, close.

I continue on  for some more pages and I see this one for a Maria (right page).  I don't have any reason to be looking at hers except I see in the names a lot of Amarals, and even Jacintho de/do Amaral

can someone with keener eyes and translations skills help me figure out what is going on here?  Am I on the right track finally?  possibly?

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Hi Carl,

You've gone into the 2nd time period so the format changes.

Do you have Jacinto's parents' names now? Why are you looking in Povoacao? Your DNA is matching people from Ribeira Quente. I'm just curious as to why you now know your immigrant came from Povoacao instead. You must have done more research.

Thanks, Cheri

Hi Cheri,

Still poking around at this point. My project at work has kept my nose out of my Genealogy studies for the most part recently.

I got a little respite tonight and was browsing the tree of a match on ftdna. I'll have to look up the member. But they had quite a few Amaral's & variants showing birth in provacao. I was able to find one of them in this parish records (1872), so I went back to 1854 and found these.

I see that provacao is geographically close to RQ, so I thought I would take a look. Do you see any significant matches for me in this area?

Hi Carl,

I don't know what "this area" refers to. Povoacao or RQ. Your matches are RQ and Flores. The RQ line will probably go back to Ponta Garca, but that's a future step :)
