Just a recap of the points we made last meeting and the message we would like to send to the Committtee.

- We don't see the main picture and what our general purpose is.

- Going forward, we are going to have a social relationship with our mentees.  If the Committee would like to utilize this relationship and incorporate a curriculum, it would be up to them to put it together.

- We request that all curriculum material be in English to more effectively fascilitate the content.

- We don't want to take part in any more general meetings as we find that they are not productive.

- We will plan a social event with our mentees for March 21.

That does sum everything up, but the event on March will be social
event but I thought we were also going to talk about Vartan and
stuff...therefore not completely a social event.

Awesome.  I think the whole "we dont want to participate in general meetings" sounds a little harsh. But hopefully your dad will sugar coat it when he presents it to the elders.

The only comment I had is in line with Alex's.  We're going to break up into small groups and review some Vartan stuff and then have a mini quiz bowl competition :)

agreed.

Also, lets start talking about ideas for the march 21 event. its not so far away.

- bbq (burgers? kebab?) plates, cups, drinks, music...

- games: sports (basketball, soccer, football, frisbee)....twister?

- prep material to talk to our mentees (vartan mamigonian, movses khorenatsi)

Also, whats going on for this Saturday. Is anyone coming to the tadron? Were we supposed to tell the mentees?

wow so im guessing this is what a meeting at barnes n noble does to
you! completely liberate you! lmao okay.... i just hope that we can
keep this expose conservative and respectful because we do have a job
to do, its just all in a jumble. we don't want to burn any bridges
here, saying it bluntly will not only hurt the work that the elders
have put in, but it will affect how they view us as mentors as well.
and yes, mentors, meaning all of us. something like this is not
personal, but collective. i agree with these points, however, i think
there will be a better way of saying it. but im not insulting you
razmig, please don't take it that way, i know that these are simply
the messages you want to get out, i just hope whoever is going to say
this shit is gonna say it with a bit of sympathy for how they may
react. sorry i couldn't make it to the meeting guys...

as for march 21, what exactly is it? group mentor-mentee meeting?
social event? im confused. we cant just HANG with these kids i mean
thats not gonna give them much more than friendship and although that
sounds really important, we do have an underlying motive here...
that's our main goal... to "teach" them about life, (which i think is
going to be WAY harder than anyone expects it to be, especially those
in charge). just keep me posted, im loving this google group thing
loll

take caree
seee youuu

I have gone, and would and will go either this Saturday or Sunday to tadron Sarmen. I thought a curriculum was set, and that the elders had decided to make that an event, but I have not seen one update on that or an email as a reminder by the elders. So I believe if it all continues this way, the mentees will ,and already have, begun to lose hope in this program soon.

Lets decide if we are going with the group, or just us mentors, or neither. :)

-Sorry I missed the meeting, and thank you for the updates.

Hey Guys..ok so as far as the updates go..Razmig, did u send anything to the elders? I also agree that the points need to be a little sugar coated before being presented. Now, as far as the 21st is concerned, I think burgers would be the best, if we want to do something social with them, but the priority is finding out if they can make it. So if everyone can pls. check with their mentees if they are available on the 21st so we can go from there. Cuz if alot of them can't make it, then we can do a one- on-one thing. So lets have a deadline by this friday to see if our mentees can make it on the 21st, after that we can decide, who is buying what and what we are planning to do. Does that sound ok with everyone?

p.s. hope everyone is having a great week:)

April 4...I've written "Azkanviroum--10-4"...on my calendar.  What was this about??? Anyone remember?  Maybe the elders can remind us ;-)

As for Hamilton Park...I'll go by on Saturday to make sure they still have BBQ's.  Do we need to get a permit from the City? I'll find out.  If the cooking thing becomes too much of a hassle, we can always get subway or order pizza's or get Zankou to sponsor.  I'm not kidding about that last one.

As for the Ardzavazt Play (that Sarmen is in)...the AGBU Pasadena High School and Scouts are attending this Saturday evening.  I believe Sunday night is a group that Razmig (or your dad?) is involved in.  I've already been twice but I'm sure I'll be there at some point this weekend again!

Info re Hamilton Park:

http://ci.pasadena.ca.us/humanservices/images/PDF%20Files/parkmaps/Hamilton%20Park.pdf

Hamilton Park  is located at 3680 Cartwright Street. Hours of operation are from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. The size of the park is 6.4 acres. Large community park with the following amenities: three softball diamonds (two with seating capacity for 400); two lighted tennis courts; basketball court; paved volleyball court; large multi-purpose field for flag football/soccer; large parking area; 2 picnic areas; children’s play area with equipment; restrooms; and drinking fountains.

Looks like, in order to "reserve" it, we need to put down a deposit and we need to do it 30 days in advance!! Arrgh. Is this bad news for us? Someone please chime in and advise.

The Picnic is on March 21 at this point.  BUT...

Briana Pambakian can't make it.  Which means Christian and Carina can't either.  What does this mean for us?

Yeah, of course. It says you must have a permit before organizing picnics, etc.  This will insure that we have the bbq area as well as benches/tables.
