Dear all,

To mail in Tamil via any email client using Azhagi, you just need to remember 'F10' key. Nothing more. In other words, start Azhagi application, create a new message, press 'F10' and start typing in Tamil. That is all to it. For those who need detailed steps, here they are below.

Please note that similar steps (as you find below) can be applied for chatting in Skype, creating blogs, posting in blogs' comment areas, replying to messages in online groups/forums, writing new topics in online groups/forums, commenting in social networking sites, etc. too.

And, these steps are the same whatever be the operating system you are using - Windows XP or Windows 7 or Windows Vista.

============================
Method A - Directly Type in Tamil
============================

- Start Azhagi.

- Ensure that 'Unicode input' is kept TICKED under 'Preferences' menu of Azhagi.

- Log in to your email account (Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, etc.)

- Click on 'Compose Mail' (or any other similar link/button, depending on the email client you use) to open the editor window helping you to compose a new message.

- See that your cursor is in the message body (i.e. the text area wherein you type all your message contents).

- Press 'F10' key (just once). [If you are using a laptop, please see 'help tip' at the bottom]

- Azhagi's tray icon will (should) change color to red. Azhagi's tray icon can be found at the right bottom of your screen, usually near the date/time indicator.

- Once Azhagi's tray icon changes color to red, start typing in English and it will appear in Tamil automatically. That is all to it. [Please note that Latha font is chosen automatically by 'Windows' for Tamil. It may not show up as 'Latha' in the fonts list of email clients but user need not be concerned about it.

- If you wish to switch back to typing in English, press 'F10' again. Azhagi's tray icon will change color to normal. Thereafter, whatever you type in English will appear in English itself.

Important Note:
You can type in any other Indian language too (if you know the same) at any time, by selecting the appropriate language. To select a particular language, press 'F9' at any time to display the 'language selector' window, select the language of your choice and press 'F9' again to close the 'language selector' window. Languages supported: Tamil, Hindi, Sanskrit, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Konkani, Gujarati, Bengali, Punjabi, Oriya, Assamese, etc. Details on key-mappings for all languages at  http://azhagi.com/multi.html . This page also contains links to pages holding detailed steps on how to type in Indian languages in all applications.

================================
Method B - Copy/Paste Tamil contents
================================

- Start Azhagi.

- Start "Azhagi's Unicode Editor". To start it, you can either press 'F8' from within Azhagi (or) Click on "Tools->Azhagi's Unicode Editor" (or) Click on the Unicode Editor button (in red background) on the top right of Azhagi's opening screen.

- Ensure that language selected in 'Languages List Box' is Tamil. If it is Tamil, font shown in 'Fonts' list will be Latha, in most cases. [ You can type in any other Indian language too (if you know the same), by selecting the appropriate language from the 'languages' list box. Languages supported: Tamil, Hindi, Sanskrit, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Konkani, Gujarati, Bengali, Punjabi, Oriya, Assamese, etc. Details on key-mappings for all languages at: http://azhagi.com/multi.html . This page also contains links to pages holding detailed steps on how to type in Indian languages in all applications ]

- Start typing in English and it will automatically appear in Tamil.

- If you wish to type in English at some places, press 'F10'. Now, whatever you type in English will appear in English itself. To type in Tamil again, press 'F10' as usual.

- Once you have typed out your desired text, you can optionally save it in a file (will be saved in .RTF format) - say 'MyTamil-1.rtf"

- Thereafter, you can select all your typed-out text and paste it anywhere you wish - i.e. in the 'compose mail' area of Hotmail/Gmail/etc., blogs' content area, blogs' comment area, online groups, forums, etc. etc.

Important Note:

(a) If you have any Tamil contents already typed using the main opening editor of Azhagi (which always generates text in non-unicode and usually in the font SaiIndira), you have to convert it into Unicode before posting it in groups, forums, blogs, etc. So, open your already typed contents first in Azhagi, then click on the button 'Convert text below to Unicode' (which is quite visible in the main opening window of Azhagi). Once you click it and press 'OK', the converted content in Unicode Tamil will get displayed in a new browser window. You can copy/paste this Unicode Tamil text anywhere you wish.

(b) If you want to effect the conversion directly (without a new browser window getting displayed), then use the  'File->Fonts Converter' utility to effect your conversion from Tscii text (or SaiIndira text) to Unicode text.

Help Tip for laptop users:
If you are using a laptop, please note that there is a key (usually named " fn " and usually adjacent to the left control key), which changes the mode of operation of the function keys. So, if pressing 'F10' does not change Azhagi's tray icon color to red, then press 'F10' while the "fn" key is kept pressed. i.e. press " fn+F10 ".

With prayers and warm regards
Viswanathan, love all - serve all
