As a parent of two kids who can speak tamil fluently, but not able to
write tamil that well, I see a need for voice recognistion software
that will recognise their speech and type it for them. Will Azhagi
consider doing some thing like that for our NRI kids.

Dear Mr.vknsvn,

As part of our answer to a query from Brother Mr.S.M.Jothiraj (in Azhagi YAHOO group - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/azhagi - this is azhagi's primary online group), we have talked upon Voice Recognition (Speech-to-Text).

We reproduce a part of that mail herebelow.

Regards.

Sub: You are very much right - Re: thanks for the mails

Dear Brother Mr.Jothiraj,

Greetings!

You wrote that we need to have something better. You are very much right in this regard. But, speaking in a broader perspective, what we need to have are much more than plugins for firefox, we feel.

Before we touch upon the firefox needs, let us list briefly what we really need now (In fact, in our humble opinion, these should have been available for use by the general public by year 2000 itself):
1) A Translation software to translate English to Tamil and vice-versa
2) A Text-to-Speech software which can speak out Tamil text
3) A Speech-to-Text software which can type out what you speak in Tamil
and...... much more.... in these lines.

When the above softwares become a reality, one cannot imagine in ordinary terms, the wealth of benefit that the masses at large will enjoy. It will be HUGE......................, and more so at the point of time in future when these kinds of softwares get completed for all languages of this world.

Let us pray for these softwares to emerge sooner than later. Why these softwares have not come about even in 2007 (when we feel that they should have been available even in 2000) - there are various many factors governing this and we can send you a personal mail, if you wish.

Coming to firefox, as far as we know,  90% of the nettizens still use IE only. ... ... .... ...
.... .... ....
.... ..
...
..

Any other queries, please do let us know.

With Warm Regards
Team Azhagi

Dear friend,

Please see the page

where several such facilities are listed.
You can use excel in Tamil by running Azhagi in the background and pressing F10 to toggle between Tamil and English. Please see details in "Frequently Azked Questions" section of Azhagi Help files

As far as we know, there are no translation softwares available. Thats
what we have mentioned in our earlier detailed mail also. But, if you
want to do Tamil to English "Transliteration", then Azhagi can do it
via its 'Reverse Transliteration' facility. The professional version
allows you to do this. Look in 'Tools->Power Tools->Reverse
Transliteration'.

Tamil in Excel is possible in Standard version.
Sorting (arranging in ascending/descending order in Tamil alphabet-
wise) is possible in Professional version

Cheers & Regards.
