I am trying to distort in perspective warped type using the free transform tool in illustrator as CS6 doesn't have a pop-out menu for the freeform transform tool. I am finding it difficult to find anything on the internet that offers a how to. I tried shift+option+command and clicked and dragged down on the top left corner handle of the bounding box but just scales it down.

It's not as bad as it initially seems. It can be awkward to get it to kick in when you first start trying it. However, once you do it a few times you get accustomed to the timing and it becomes rather mindless.

This is one reason they added that popup tool menu in CC versions. The same shortcut, with the same mandatory order, still works in CC versions, just so you know. Once you get the hang of it, you can use the shortcut for any version of AI and completely ignore that (annoying) little popup tool menu.

Type your file name (DIFFERENT THAN ORIGINAL PLEASE!) and the Save as Type is still going to be Adobe Illustrator (*.AI) **This is where the above instructions threw me, as the Save as type drop down does not list anything about versions to save fo)

Once you click Save, the Illustrator Options dialog box will come up. The first option is titled Version and has a drop down menu. Select the version of illustrator you want to save your file as here, then click ok.

Has any one experinced CS6 Illustrator lagging and responding extremely slow. For example if I try to move a vector graphic it takes a few seconds before it re-freshes and updates. That goes for about everything re-sizing, moving, editing.....

Left click adobe illustrator exe file, go to the properties, then shortcut tab, and see below Target: now you just have to paste this -w 1600 -h 900 in your target location and hit apply ok. Please set your resolution according to your LED monitor size. hope this helped.

Same here. Anyone notice a gradual slowdown? Typically if I restart AI it fixes the slow. It's almost as if it's updating a cache of every window I open. Also, why am I always asked if I want to clear the clipboard? Apologies, thats probably unrelated

Same here... Very slow, even selecting items on the menu has been lagging lately, very frustrating. I also tried removing "smart guides", "snap to point", did everything to optimize Illustrator - all without luck. And I'm running on a machine that's rather old (2011), but has 16Gb of RAM, so I shouldn't be experiencing these.

My files are large as I use AI for interaction design with lots of embedded images and many artboards - and I am saving these to dropbox folders - so potentially some issues there I will need to troubleshoot.

It's just taken me nearly an hour to do something that should take about 2 minutes! Literally just load a file, select everything on a layer, and copy it to the clipboard... it's not even a hugely complicated piece!

Same thing happening here! I got a weird message that one of my files contains data that will cause it to run very slow. I have updated my video card drivers, illustrator is fully updated. HELP! I am on a deadline

I think this might be a memory issue. When I open smaller files, CC moves really quickly, just like CS6. But when I open a file with tons of elements, a few Fonts, a few images and tons of artboards and elements, things LAG really really bad, as the rest of you reported.

Also has anyone tried hooking up a big blank external scratch disc? I'm going to try the scratch disc method as I don't feel like spending money on Ram or a new Graphics Card. (I should have just bought a Mac, ha!)

I'm an old school Adobe CS6 suites user on an iMac 27" High Sierra macOS 10.13.6 OS system. I have years of adobe illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop files, that I will still need to access moving forward. I am looking to buy a new IMac 27" and it will have Big Sur macOS 11.0.x, which will not run my Adobe CS6 software.

From past computer upgrades, I have found that this is not always the case from software to software. I am hoping that Affinity or someone in this community has gone through a similar transition. I would love to hear what happened, and hoping that it's true that I can open us use my old Adobe CS6 Files in Affinity!

Affinity can open the PDF part of AI-file. That is, if you have saved with "Create PDF compatible file" you can open it with Affinity. It is not though guaranteed that everything is like you set it in AI, layers setup may be lost, text blocks may be broken to lines, some grad types do not transfer clearly etc.

Hi @Stuido Ryan Coover and welcome! You can also export InDesign documents as .idml files and import these into Affinity Publisher. Again, it's never going to be a perfect process and there are bound to be rough edges. You certainly can't open InDesign docs directly in Publisher, and any apply sales person who says you can is fibbing.

Please note that each ten-day trial clock runs continuously from the moment you first launch the app, so you would be well advised to run one trial after the other instead of attempting to run them in parallel. The shared file format ensures that any files saved from the first or second trial can be opened in the remaining app/s.

Doesn't look like it. I'm running Mac / BigSur. Got a freebie for CS6 - AI / EPS and PNG. The PNG files are mockups with text on them. The AI files mostly don't work. Might be specific to gradients. A few of the EPS files don't load either, either outright or comparable gradient problem. They're nice enough and big enough that if I just had PNG or TIFF that would be fine. But, the only bitmaps are mockups with text.

I'm not interested in Adobe products. Between subscriptions and "In App Purchases" there's a racket going on there more intended to broke people than value for the money. That's why I'm Affinity bound.

Maybe they're paranoid about selling bitmaps of the vectors because they're more easily transferable.

But, what good is a "free" graphic that locks into a specific software. Not brushes or stamps or patterns, but just a good image graphic?

The .ai files must be saved in compatibility mode, so they include a PDF version of the design. The Affinity apps require that because the native AI file format is in a proprietary firm that Affinity can't understand.

Creating the right kind of arrows in illustrator is not that easy but you have explained all the steps in a detailed and understandable manner. The illustrations and diagrams are a real help. Thank you so much!

Hello, Great Post! I was a Corel Draw user, and now already moved to Adobe Illustrator. I am still learning and making Vector art for my WebSite. This guide help me to understand more about Arrow. Thank you very much ?

Adobe Illustrator CC is an upgraded version of Illustrator CS6. One major difference is that the CC version is a cloud-based subscription using new technologies and the CS6 is a non-subscription version of old technology using the perpetual license.

As a graphic designer and illustrator myself, there are so many things I love about Adobe Illustrator. I started my graphic design journey in 2012. After using different versions of Adobe Illustrator, I decided to stay with the Adobe Illustrator CC version.

You might have already heard of Illustrator CS6, the latest version of Illustrator CS released in 2012. The CS6 version is widely used by creative professionals to create stunning vector graphics.

The CS6 version, operated by the mercury performance system, is compatible with other software such as Photoshop and CorelDraw. This great feature allows you to edit the graphic and text freely online and offline.

Illustrator CC and Illustrator CS6 are both great for graphic design. The main difference is CC version is using new cloud technology. And the subscription plan allows you to use other Adobe products, which most designers do use multiple programs for design projects.
