Comrades

In a political space things continue to happen, thick and fast. Recently we had Selebi; we had Reitz 4; We had General Cele and the R500 000 lease; we had a Sunday Times journalist sent to jail; we had a Nhlapho Commission; we had,...etc.

We hear comments left and right, yet from the Giant AZAPO we hear only but loud silence. What has happened to the Secretaries of Departments whose departmental wisdom should help us understand where we should stand on these matters? What happened to PECs who should lead media discussions in their provinces?

In the past we used to have lone voices from the wilderness, cracking the AZAPO sjambock. I no longer even hear such voices. What Happened to Mpumelelo Toyise, Samore Hebstein and Sbongile Somdaka? Have they also succumbed to the greatest slumber of thicked and darkened soporiferous silence?

Dear Comrade Ntontela

I have in the past been reluctant to bring this to your attention (and that of other Comrades), but because I see this practice persisting, I have therefore chosen this moment to alert us all. Just like one of your last emails, you are raising important internal issues, which in my view should either be discussed within AZAPO structures or AZAPO amongst members only.

I am raising this because I notice that on your email below and the previous one, some people (whom I have deleted) are not AZAPO members and have been privy to some of our discussions i.e. the one of ulwaluko/koma.

I humbly appeal to you, as the originator of this and the previous email, please do take due regard when you copy people on your email discussion with AZAPO members (on AZAPO issues). This is also to ensure that, when other AZAPO comrades reply, they must do so with the full confidence that they are sharing their thoughts with members of their own organisation.

Comradely

I think the first step in us changing anything is understanding that we are in trouble. It is sad that we have been through this path before. The JHB Commitment was part of the plan to swing things around. We are where we were before this Commitment.

If we are not able to make news sense today, how will we make sense before elections? What will we tell voters? Why should they vote for AZAPO? What do you tell someone you are recruiting to AZAPO - what is a brand and image sense for the current realities that AZAPO is projecting? How are we better than the NGOs?

I am really convinced that many of us in AZAPO are happy with the status quo. All that many of us patiently wait for is anything from AZAPO where we urgently analyse it and analyse the originator; critique the attire, the manner of standing, manner of speaking, etc.

I have heard from others for many a times that when a member of AZAPO is to make any media statement (print or electronic) a person does not worry about the outside world, but worry about what members of AZAPO would say. They prefer no news than any news. SAD!!!

I must say that ours is a crisis point, and requires crisis response.

I think Azapo has the rare chance to lift its voice higher. More than the opposition which is dead. We must win parliament, win the general elections. Otherwise, we must really introspect even if it means closing shop because because we are not effective. The Congress brought much hope, made us see the fist everywhere. But now it looks like its back to old ways. Can the spirit of organizing reign supreme. Can we see the national office go to regions, branches and units mobilizing and reviving them. I talk of Tshwane, which has the biggest chance to outbid the ANC but the problem is our self-defeating attitude. Structures are in disarray, and the very little encouraging signs from dedicated and self-less comrades hardly get support from through the hierarchy of order. There is no moment in time where the ruling party is at this weakest! No policy direction, no leadership, not sensible public discourse. What is Azapo doing with its intellectual capital? Fukamele!
