There is a two way satellite Internet service offered by DirecTV that
sounds promising. No phone line at all, 24/7 unlimited always on
connection. The same dish can also provide satellite TV. But the website
will not allow email inquiries unless you sign up first. You have to
call a toll free number. I hate calling salespeople, I just have a few
questions, like is it available where I live and who will be installing
it.

Does this sound flaky? Does anyone know more about it? I thought, since
it's DirecTV, it should be worth checking out.

A) The connection *will* suffer from rain fade.

B) I hope you're not planning on doing any gaming - the latency on the
satellite link is ugly.

It sure does. I would run, not walk, from anyone who will not answer
questions until I buy.
