Lawrence,

It would be great if you could become a referee.  As a referee, you make the games happen for our children.  And it’s a great way to connect with kids and the game of soccer – a lot of fun.

We will train you and certify you to become a referee.  We’ll provide you with a uniform and mentor you on the field.  You can choose which games you referee.  We hope that you will ref at least 10 games during the season.  If you ref more than 7, your child gets a discount on next season’s fees.

We have an online companion course coming up.  Below is some information to help you understand how it works.

It starts with an on-line programmed training session.  Please log onto

                https://www.aysotraining.org/Default.asp

Log on with your AYSO ID number and last name.  (You got your ID number when you registered.  If you don’t remember it please email me and I’ll send it to you).  Then click “start now” under referee training.  The course is called “basic referee”.

This program walks you through various sections of FIFA and AYSO laws and rules, and discusses good procedures for referees.  It tests to confirm your learning throughout.  You can take the online course anytime, and break it into several sessions if you prefer.  It generally takes a couple of hours to complete.

While you are taking the online course, please note any questions that you have.  We will review and answer these during the field training.

You have more than a week to complete the training above.  Then we have our field training session.  This is on

                Sunday, September 13, from 9:00AM to 1:00PM

Miller Middle School soccer fields (use parking lot off of Rainbow)

The purpose of the field training is to reinforce the on-line training, demonstrate the real-life aspects that can’t be taught on-line, and answer your questions.  There will be sessions on pre- and post-game activities, restarting the game, fouls, offside, and positioning/signaling.  These sessions will not repeat all of the material that was in the online course – there isn’t enough time for that.  What is covered will be determined to a large extent by the students, their questions and interest.

Please let me know if this works for you, and I will register you for the training.  Thank you very much for volunteering to referee in AYSO.

Sorry, I mean, the Discount on your child's registrations

So when you are a returning referee, your kids get a discount.

Dear Eric,

Thanks for the information.  When you say "Returning Referee Discount", do you mean I need to pay for being the referee here?  Then next year, I will get a discount for being the referee?  Thx.

Hi Lawerence,

It's a combination of online and field training

Plus a few games with help from a teacher

Then you can referee on your own.

There is no "minimum" number of games but if you want the "Returning Referee Discount" in the Spring, you need to referee a minimum of 5 games the previous season (This includes the games you work at with a teacher).

RRA staff please help.

Hi Eric,

From what I understand, being the referee, I will need to do it 10 times in order to the uniform as well, is that right?  I have never been a referee before, but I am thinking about it.  Thx.

Hey Soccer Parents!

Be a Referee!
- It's Fun
- Learning the rules makes Soccer more fun
- Run around with the kids on Saturday (and sometimes Sunday)
- Pick the games/times you referee
- Contact r...@ayso64.org for more details

Soccer Games start Saturday September 12.  We will try to have the schedule available by Thursday Sept 10.
- It's challenging because we have over 40 games to schedule every week, a limited number of fields, and we play against (interlock) with other regions.

Have a great Labor Day weekend!

Hi Lawrence and Coach Eric,
Allow me to clarify a couple things from Coach Eric's excellent referee advertisement.

- We (the Regional Referee Administrator staff) train all referee candidates. There is a two part course coming up shortly. The first half of the course is done online at your pace prior to the second half of the course. The second half is field training, a review of the online portion, and a certification test. It will take place on September 13, 9am-1pm.
- New referees receive a uniform and gear after completing the course and test. We will also mentor you during the first few weeks so you don't experience a trial by fire.
- Because AYSO is an all volunteer organization and we are providing your training and uniform, we ask that all referees officiate 7-10 games per season to meet their volunteer commitment. You get to pick the dates and times based on your schedule during the 10 week season.
- Meeting the 7 game minimum has two perks: first "referee" counts as a league AND team job, and second, entitles you to a "returning referee discount" on your child's registration for next season. You also get a cool sweatshirt every fall!

Refereeing is an important role, without referees the kids won't have a game.

Please let us know if you'd like to sign up for training. If so, Charlie Roxlo, our Director of Referee Instruction will contact you with more details.

Thanks for your interest,
Kristina

Hi Aaron,
Thanks for reaching out, Ethan can sign up for the Sept 13 "referee companion course" in eAYSO. He would do the first portion (normally done in a 4 hour class) online prior to the field training and certification exam on 9/13 from 9am-1pm. We find this is preferable for PRO (player referee organization) refs who know the game well. The online portion is at www.aysotraining.org

I remember seeing your email address in the list of potential referees, but I guess you haven't seen the emails sent by Charlie Roxlo, our Director of Referee Instruction. I'm copying him here as well.

If Ethan hasn't done so already, he will need to log in to eAYSO and create an volunteer AYSO ID# before he can sign up for training. If Ethan can take the class on 9/13, please reply back to the R...@AYSO64.ORG alias with Ethan's volunteer ID and contact info and Charlie can get him signed up for class.

I hope he can make it!
Kristina
