My hometown is observing 150 years since the arrival of the first party of settlers in 1875. My great grandparents were in the second party in 1878. They were Gilbert McClung and Agnes Logan. They were married in Lagg Church of Scotland in 1877. Their families lived at Old Lagg Cottages. I went to have a look at were they came from and noticed the name of the church next to Lagg House was the Fisherton church. Would this be the same place with a name change? I have been asked to write the official family story, so anxious to get all the details correct.  I have emailed the minister and the church, the church office in Maybole and another couple of places but unable to get a reply. Local knowledge is usually best.
The McClungs travelled to NZ as servants of 17 year old Alexander Ralston whose father owned Lagg Farm. Along with Ralston's cousin, Tom Fergusson, they then leased a farm from Alexander and Captain John McKenzie from Aaran. McKenzie sold this farm to McClure. I notice these surnames coming up on here.
Many thanks.
