I have just come across this site and was very interested in the message posted by Barbara Murray, 3 April 2006: I have a grandfather clock which is early Victorian and was made by a Hugh Millar of Stewarton. Is there any information on this gentleman?

I, too, have a grandfather clock with ‘H Miller - Stewarton’ painted on the dial. There is a painting on the top of the dial ‘The Death of the Stag’ and a seasons painting - one on each corner of the dial. I am trying to find some information about my clock and wonder if anyone can shed any light on it. Thank you. Rosemary Young.

Hi Tom,

Sorry to disappoint you but I am not Jimmy’s wife. My husband was Douglas Young from Troon and I am Rosemary (Brown as was) from Glasgow but now living in Doncaster. Hope you do find who you are looking for.

Cheers
Rosemary

Hello to you both. I am a local historian in Kilwinning and in 2019 I published a book "Time Piece: the clocks, clock & watchmakers of Kilwinning". Hugh Millar made the clock for Mansefield Church, Kilwinning in 1860. I am now writing an update to Time Piece and am struggling to find any information about him from Public Records. He really is a mystery man. I am thrilled to see that there are two Hugh Millar longcase clocks in existence even though they were not made in Kilwinning. Would either of you be prepared to send me pictures of the clocks? You can contact me in Messenger chats or I can give you my email address. Thank you, Heather Upfield

Hi Rosemary - I seem to have lost your clock details. Can you please get back to me? What I am looking for is a photo of the dial, that has the inscription "Hugh Millar Stewarton " on it, as part of my research. Many thanks - Heather Upfield
