Steve Jobs comes to mind but I won't elect him because he is so famous anyway.
My choice is the Indian mathematician Ramanujan.
I've read his biography - some years later I picked up a book on the history of Math and Ramanujan figured prominently in that book. His contribution in the field of Mathematics is breath taking.
He was an original. He was pure genius. He was dedicated to his subject. He was a simple man of simple habits.
I love his dark swarthy good looking face with eyes so deep so passionate so stirring so piercing.
Closest to Hank Rearden I would say.

I would like to propose a game for this list:

Name or discuss heroes of the caliber envisioned by AR. They could be
real-life contemporaries, historical, fictional or mythical. Obvious
exception being that they were not conjured by Rand herself.

To kick off (and by way of example) I propose Atticus Finch (To kill a
    mockingbird).
