Position Title: Advocacy and Communications Manager
Reports To: Executive Director
Supervises: Campus organizers, field organizers, interns and
volunteers
Position: Full-time
Salary: Competitive pay commensurate with experience

Available Start Date: Early to mid December
Summary:
The Advocacy and Communications Manager will oversee electoral field
operations, program implementation and management, and earned,
traditional, social and new media for NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia’s
Foundation, 501 (c4) and Political Action Committee.
Description of Responsibilities:
Political Program Management: (c4 & PAC)
§ Develop and execute voter contact strategies and field and
message campaigns in targeted legislative districts.
§ Conduct candidate interviews and oversee endorsement
process.
§ Create election-related email alerts to members and
activists.
§ Organize and oversee GOTV field canvasses and phone banks.
Program Management: (Foundation & c4)
§ Develop and implement the organization’s short and long term
program objectives
§ Develop and implement plans and measurable goals for
grassroots public education campaigns;
§ Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and interns needed
to implement grassroots programs including coordination of monthly
volunteer nights and in-office day volunteers;
§ Write and design educational materials;
Intern, Field Organizer, Campus Organizers and Volunteer Management:
§ Recruit, train and supervise interns to support
organization’s programmatic work;
§ Supervise college/university campus intern campaigns;
§ Supervise field organizer for educational outreach community
organizing;
Communications Management:
§ Oversee communication operations – develop relationships
with reporters, pitch stories to media, look for opportunities to
promote organization and write press releases;
§ Capitalize on earned media opportunities for organizational
influence;
§ Maintain and grow social media efforts including Facebook,
Twitter, Blog for Choice, YouTube;
§ Maintain organization’s website.
Other Duties:
§ Draft and submit email alerts to members and activists.
§ Assist executive director and deputy director of development
with grant reports and requests.
Minimum job requirements:
§ Bachelor’s Degree required; Graduate work/degree a plus.
§ Strong commitment to reproductive justice and the mission of
NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia;
§ At least one cycle of electoral experience with a campaign
or issue organization;
§ Experience working in and building coalitions;
§ Experience planning and conducting trainings and
facilitating meetings;
§ Excellent oral and written communication skills;
§ Ability to independently manage several projects at one
time, developing and following a strategic plan and setting
priorities;
§ Ability to work cooperatively with board members, staff,
media, volunteers and the general public;
§ A flexible work schedule (some nights and weekends) & access
to regular transportation is highly preferred.
Preferred Job Requirements:
§ Master’s Degree strongly preferred;
§ Access to reliable personal transportation;
§ Experience with reproductive rights and/or justice work;
§ Working knowledge of political environment of the
Commonwealth of Virginia.
