Importance of Position to Organization: BRAVO is at an exciting juncture in its 12-year history. Tenants make up 58% of Arlington’s population – yet their involvement in local civic life is not commensurate with their numbers. For tenants to be successful at influencing landlords and policymakers making decisions that affect their lives, tenants must become integrated into the civic fabric of their community: speaking out to make an intersection safer; growing food at a community garden and donating portions to a food assistance center; increasing recycling in an apartment complex; organizing food shopping for neighbors less able to shop.

We are launching innovative initiatives to engage tenants in getting to know each other better, learning more about the community they live in, identifying and addressing community needs. Some initiatives are spelled out. Some aren’t. New ones need to be conceived and developed. And all of this needs to be implemented. The individual hired will serve as the right arm of BRAVO’s Executive Director, who has 30 years of experience in civic engagement, specializing in conceiving and running local advocacy campaigns. This will range from bookkeeping and filing to conceptualizing and strategizing – and lots of executing.
