Weekly Roadrunner Update 5/16

Hey Roadrunners!

The rain cancelled Basics/Beginner's last week but the good news is the lake came up a couple feet. We had an Opti start and a Pico start for Saturday's Green Fleet practice. After three races, Sam Peel came in first for the Optis with 4 points, followed by Marine Graby and Jules Bettler who tied for second with 7 points. Ben Peel came in first for Picos with 4 points, followed by Michael Yost in second with 5 points and Matt Gibbons in third with 8 points. A job well done by everyone! 

This week, Thursday's Basics/Beginner's practice will be at a new time: 4:30 to 7:00. A reminder that I am available in the Sail Training Cabin a half hour before every practice, so if you need to drop your sailor off early, I will be there at 4:00. 

This Saturday is our last Green Fleet practice before the summer break. I will be setting a triangle course and scoring races in preparation for Turnback Canyon. Please come to this practice if you plan on racing Turnback! Practice will run from 1:30 to 4:00. A friendly reminder to please be on time and RSVP so I can plan and prepare for each lesson accordingly. 

This Sunday we will not be having Free Sail Sunday, however we will be having a Roadrunner Work Party from 11:00 to 1:00. We have a lot of work to do to get our boats and facilities ready for both College Nationals and our summer camps. We will hopefully be painting the Pavilion and making sure our Optis are shipshape among other small projects. Please come on out and lend a hand and please bring any tools, knowledge, supplies, etc. that could come in handy! 

Turnback Canyon is fast approaching and I want to encourage all our Opti sailors to sign up. We have lowered the cost of registration to $35 regardless of whether or not you register early. It will be a very relaxed and friendly regatta– a great opportunity for many of our beginners to get some racing experience. I will be on a coach boat to give pointers and help out during races so beginners are more than welcome! This should be a really fun event and I am really looking forward to seeing many of you out there. Please let me know if you plan on competing. 

So far, no one has volunteered for the Roadrunner fundraiser on the Sunday afternoon of Turnback Canyon. I am looking for parents (and their kids) to help set up, cook hamburgers/hot dogs, and clean up afterwards. In order for this event to happen and be successful, I need the help and support from Roadrunner families.
