Hey Roadrunners!
Another great week of practices for our junior sailors. Thank you to Bill Records who was on hand at last week's Basics/Beginners practice to help out with on the water training. We had a great turn out and played follow the leader to improve sail trim on different points of sail. Saturday's Green Fleet practice was a competitive one with 10 boats out! We ran races on a triangle course in preparation for the Turnback Canyon Regatta this weekend. After three scored races, Sam Peel came in first place with 3 points. Jules Bettler took second with 7 points followed by Michael Yost with 9 points. Everyone did a great job and I'm really impressed with how far everyone has come. I've seen big improvements in upwind sailing and starts lately.

We had a work party on Sunday and I want to thank the small but hardworking group who came out to help: Stefan and Ethan Froelich, Marcy and Jeff Berbrick, Will and Laura Abrams, and the Peel family. Our Pavilion and boats look amazing after numerous repairs and some fresh coats of paint. I cannot express how appreciated you all are!
This week, we have Basics/Beginners practice on Thursday at our new time from 4:30 to 7:00. Please remember to RSVP!
This weekend there will not be Green Fleet practice or Free Sail Sunday due to the Turnback Canyon Regatta. However those who are not competing are more than welcome to come out and watch or volunteer for our Roadrunner fundraiser on Sunday the 27th from 12:00 to 3:00. We still could use plenty of help.
This week is the last week of official Roadrunner practices before the summer break. We will start back up with Green Fleet and Basics practices on July 14th. However, there are many ways to stay involved throughout June! College Nationals are being hosted at the AYC this year from May 30th to June 8th. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities still available and I encourage all our Roadrunner sailors to come out and watch! The full schedule of events can be found in May's Telltale or at: http://2012nationals.collegesailing.org/. There is still room in session 2 (June 18-22), session 3 (June 25-29) and session 4 (July 9-13) for our Junior Sailing Camp. Also several Roadrunner fleet board members have volunteered their time to keep Free Sail Sundays going throughout the summer. Mark your calendars for June 17th, June 24th, July 1st and July 8th!
