This year, Area F is doing something a little different and offering a cash award at the Junior Championship qualifiers. This is being done to help defray the expenses for registration, travel, etc. to California, which is where the Junior Championship finals is being held this year. As explained in the NORs, US Sailing medals will be awarded to the top two (2) finishing teams. But, each competitor (skipper and crew) who submits their registration to the US Sailing Chubb U.S. Junior Sailing Championship (the “National Championship”) on the National Championship Event Website by June 15 will also receive a $250.00 cash prize.
This means, of course, that if the top scoring team at a qualifier decides they are not going to the finals, they will only get US Sailing medals. If that happens, the next eligible highest scoring team will then get invited to represent Area F at the finals. The team that actually registers to go to the finals to represent Area F gets the cash to help defray their costs!
