The Sydney Section of the American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics (AIAA) proudly presents a free public lecture entitled

DEEP SPACE INDUSTRIES: MINING AND MANUFACTURING IN SPACE

by Daniel Faber - Co-Founder, Deep Space Industries

Date: Thursday 11 April 2013 at 6:30pm
Location: Theatre 6, Central Learning Block, Building E19, University of New South Wales, Kensington

This public lecture is FREE and all are welcome. Please RSVP to aiaa.sydn...@gmail.com by Wednesday 10 April.

A map of the UNSW campus can be found online at http://www.facilities.unsw.edu.au/getting-uni/campus-maps. The Central Learning Block is located in Building E19. On street parking is available on Barker St and paid parking is available at various parking stations around the UNSW campus.

This event is proudly supported by the UNSW School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering and the Australian Centre for Space Engineering Research. This public lecture is also being held as part of Yuri's Night 2013, which is a global celebration of humanity's past, present and future in space. Visit www.yurisnight.net for more details.

A summary of the talk and a brief biography of the speaker are below and a flyer with all the details is also attached. Feel free to forward details of this event to others who may be interested. Apologies if you receive this more than once.

Talk Summary:

Deep Space Industries prospects, harvests and processes space resources. We are developing a fleet of low cost spacecraft for prospecting near Earth asteroids. Larger spacecraft will then retrieve asteroid samples, eventually scaling up in size to return larger quantities for processing in high Earth orbit, creating propellant to extend the lives of communications satellites, supply government needs and building materials for expanding in-space infrastructure. In parallel, Deep Space has a patent pending for a 3D printing process that quickly transforms raw asteroid material into high-strength metal parts, and is working on other critical elements in the space resources supply chain.

About Daniel Faber:

Daniel Faber is a co-founder of Deep Space Industries, and is an active entrepreneur and Professional Engineer with experience in mechanical, electrical and systems engineering, spanning the fields of micro- and nano-satellites, nuclear physics, power generation, steel production and telecommunications.

The highlights of Mr Faber’s career include designing, building and operating some of the world's most interesting small space junk, including the world's smallest space telescopes, inflatable habitation modules and tiny satellite wheels (because most satellites have wheels!). During periods of boredom he experimented with launching satellites from large guns and hyper-velocity crash-landers for the Moon.

Daniel got an engineering degree from UNSW where he started the BLUESat student satellite project and he currently lives and works in Belgium. Daniel founded his first company, Heliocentric, with the goal of revolutionizing mineral analysis for mining exploration and extraction. He also co-founded Antarctic Broadband, to deliver high speed internet to the extreme south, and Spacecore, a commercialization center for space-related technologies in Australia.
