A Message from the Faculty of Engineering
Do you want an engineering work placement arranged for you in the dynamic Defence and National Security industry?
Once again an exciting opportunity for 3rd and 4th year Engineering students and Small to Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) to participate in the Defence Engineering Internship Program (DEIP), is being sponsored by the Defence Materiel Organisation in 2013.
DEIP is intended to increase engineering students’ interest in the defence industry, particularly with SMEs. In 2012, DEIP paired 30 selected engineering students undertaking the practical component of their coursework with defence industry SMEs from around Australia with outstanding results. The program continues in 2013 for another 30 engineering students.
To be eligible for the internship, students must be Australian citizens and eligible for a security clearance. DEIP provides Australian defence SMEs with the opportunity to market defence and national security industry as an innovative, interesting and viable career path to engineering students who undertake a sponsored work placement in their firm.
Eligible students are invited to submit an application to be considered for a 12-week placement with a Defence focussed SME. Successful applicants will be remunerated at the rate of $700 per completed week for the 12 weeks of placement. Only 30 positions are available nationally.
The placements are managed by AITEC, an experienced educational project management organisation, and the Australian Defence and Industry Network. Online applications will be open April 15 – May 10 2013. For further information, please visit www.aitec.edu.au/deip
