Dear Friend-
As a person who cares about the issue of women directors in film and one who signed the petition last spring to the Cannes Film Festival decrying the lack of women directed films in their competition, I wanted to share with you this video we put together on the occasion of the Academy Awards this weekend.
In case you are not aware, no women were nominated for best director this year, so that means in 85 years only FOUR women have been nominated and only ONE has won.
This is the one weekend during the year where people pay attention to the film business, and not just movies they want to see, so this is an important opportunity to have discussions on the lack of gender equity in the film business.
In addition, we wanted to share with you news of the publication of the first e-book from Women and Hollywood, In Her Voice: Women Directors Talk Directing- Volume 1. In Her Voice is the first book that takes the words and experiences of a diverse group of celebrated women film directors and puts their voices front and center. This unique volume of interviews presents more than 40 feature and documentary directors from around the world including Debra Granik (Winter’s Bone), Courtney Hunt (Frozen River), Callie Khouri (Mad Money), Sally Potter (Rage), Lone Scherfig (An Education) and Lynn Shelton (Humpday).
As a friend of Women and Hollywood we would like to offer you the discounted rate of $5 USD.
