Hi everyone,

Chrome version 87 comes with a number of accessibility fixes and improvements across platforms. Here are some of the notable updates in this milestone, with links to relevant bugs and code changes when available for reference.

Highlights

  • Switch Access is now available on Chromebooks.  Switch Access is a feature that helps to make the interface accessible through the use of a one or two button switch controller, which is an important mode of navigation for users with motor and dexterity challenges. (Change 2373368, Bug 1016200, Bug 1121357)

Chrome on Mac

  • Context menus opened on multiline links are now visually anchored to the link text. (Change 2412906, Bug 1121180)

  • Context menus opened via keyboard are now populated with the correct options.(Change 2407077, Bug 1121180)

  • Fixed a VoiceOver bug where the webpage reads automatically, even when the “Automatically speak the webpage” checkbox in Voiceover Utility is not checked. (Change 2427070, Bug 1049320)

  • Misspellings are now announced with VoiceOver on Mac. (Change 2288789, Bug 1008031)

Thanks so much for these updates. I hope Chrome on Linux gets some love and notes on that are sent in the future as well.
