Hello,

I'm feeling quite out of my depth after reading Christopher Chaltain's thread about a similar issue so please be patient! I apologize in advance for my inevitable clumsiness implementing your suggestions.

A while ago (I know that's so wonderfully specific; a couple of months), I lost speech with Chromevox. At that point, I am not sure which version I was running because I assumed the problem was with my computer and not the extension so didn't check. I am currently running Chromevox 1.22.1 and having the same complete dearth of speech.

My computer is a Lenovo T510 running Windows 7 Ultimate. The sound drivers on this machine, particularly the sound "enhancements" are known to cause problems and so I thought that was the explanation for mine. However, I now have had multiple instances of speech from my screen reader (Windows-Eyes, now 7.5) and other computer sounds without any speech or any other sound from Chromevox.. I have also now corrected a hotkey conflict with my display driver and Chromevox.

Long story short, I feel it is time to start troubleshooting the extension but have no idea how to even start.

What kind of information can I provide all of you to help you offer suggestions? Might you have any troubleshooting suggestions already?

I'm completely at a loss here so ANYTHING is helpful.

Thanks!
Sally

I had this problem when I upgraded ChromeVox, but I don't recall the
specific version number now. It seemed to be linked to the fact that I
was still using the Lois TTS. I also had this problem on both of my
machines, as well as at least one virtual machine. It may be overkill,
but the most reliable way I found to resolve it was to remove ChromeVox,
Lois and the Default US Female Text to Speech plug ins. After this,
reinstall ChromveVox and then just the Default US Female Text to Speech
plug ins.

Hello,

I should have mentioned the things I've already tried. Unless I'm missing some vital step in uninstalling extensions I have already done:

uninstall and reinstall of chromevox
install of the default us english voice (the updated version linked in your email thread)
complete uninstall and reinstall of chrome

I have never used or installed the Lois voice but have always used the default voice.

Earlier this spring I had Ivona voices on my machine but never even tried to use them in conjunction with Chrome. They are gone now but is it possible that they took something important with them when I removed them?

Thanks,
Sally

OK, have you tried:
1) Remove the TTS.
2) Remove ChromeVox.
3) Install ChromeVox.
4) Install the TTS.
If that doesn't work then maybe the devs can weigh in with their
suggestions.

i think i saw in the message erlyer that you had done some of these
but i think the point is the order in witch you do them is key not
witch ones you do so the order of speach to so on is key do the steps
int the order noted here

Hokay, so...

I did the removals and installs in the recommended order and still no speech. I'd like to once again highlight the lack of any other chromevox sounds since that seemed significant in other posts.

Also, on a whim, I went to youtube and tried to play a music video. Guess what??? No sound there either! Mind you, if I turn on my screen reader it will read everything it "sees" on chrome so sound is possible while chrome is running just not, apparently, from chrome itself.

I'm starting to think this is not chromevox specific but chrome itself. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling chrome already too, btw.

Any suggestions? I realize this is reaching out of the scope of this list but thought it was worth asking.

Thanks!

Hi there,
We have the US google TTS in the store. Could we please also get the
male UK one? If so, when could we expect it?

Brandon,

I believe Pitermach is talking about the TTS voice in the Chrome web store used in talking Chrome apps (e.g. ChromeVox).

It is called "US English Female Text-to-speech" by Google.  It is much better than the old TTS voices Google has in the web store.
