I use hangouts a lot with a friend but I have a really hard time answering when he calls me. Isd there an easy way to answer a hangouts call?

Sadly, none that I've found and I struggle with the same thing.  The new call seems to appear in its own tab however it's still a frantic race to locate that answer button.  Of all the things not to have a hotkey for.... :)

I use my IPHONE to answer GOOGLE Hangout calls. But sometimes I will answer and not hear anything, even though I go into the call. This happens about 1/3 of the time.

So I would not recommend Google Hangouts if you can help it. Google knows about the Hangouts problem and they have not seemed very motivated to fix it, even though every single screen reader user who uses Hangouts has this problem. You can see just how much Google values their blind customers by not fixing a problem that has been around for years and literately requires maybe 5 lines of code.

Google has not labled their emoticons or labels either. This is a very nice touch that Apple has done and even works on Google Hangouts on the IPhone.

Skype is currently the best calling app for blind users, not including Facetime.

We'll see if the Google Hangouts programmers can add a listener for alt+page up (or what ever skype uses) to answer calls on Hangouts.

Speaking of Google Hangouts: 

I am required to use it for work, where I have a Windows-7 desktop. Questions:

1. Which of the following screenreader-browser combos work best with Hangout? IE with Supernova, IE with NVDA, Chrome with NVDA, or Chrome with Chromevox?

2. When I am on a call via Google Hangout, the screenreader voice is very faint, so much so that I cannot hear it well enough. Can I change that somehow?

Hello,

I use the Hangouts that is in the GMail standard view. It works OK. I would give it probably a 5/10 in UX design and a 7/10 in accessibility.

I use it both on Chrome and Firefox. Firefox is a little better because it reads spelling errors. I use NVDA.

The volume thing is called Audio Ducking. Look at your screen reader's user guide for Audio Ducking and set it to never.

The hangouts page is not much different than the gmail one. I started useing it, but didn't find it was worth keeping 2 tabs open.

Also, there is no shortcut for answering calls. There is one for muting and unmuting the microphone, but not answering the call in the first place.

This is a major bug that should have been fixed in the first release.

Sorry I came in late in this conversation, I only use hangouts to chat with my clients, and am moving those conversations to slack.

However I don’t place or receive calls threw hangouts.

A friend of my and I figured out a relatively easy way to answer a hangouts call. When you get the notification of a call, press alt shift N to open the applications window, tab to answer and then press enter.

to make a hongouts call, when all the windows are closed press alt number 5 then control tab, and then tabv twice, and then press enter.which will put you in the hangouts window,
