Hello,
I have been trying for the last half hour to get Chromevox installed and
nothing seems to work.
I stumbled over this link:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chromevox/kgejglhpjiefppelpmljglcjbhoiplfn
Which seems to be the install for cromevox for PC. I could not find how to
install cromevox with using Chrome, searching for install cromevox didn't
come up with the above webpage first second or third.
Maybe Crome can detect if a person is using a screen reader and either
install cromevox by default or it can pop up with the cromevox page each
time a person with a screen reader on opens google Crome.
Once I got to the above page and hit enter (Not space, space does not work
on that button for me), I was told there was a dialogue with NVDA, Jaws just
froze. I went to the top of the page with NVDA and tried to enter the
dialogue it said was there, but when I hit enter on the dialogue, it just
told me what cromevox was. I tried tabbing around and nothing happened. I
tried using my arrow keys and nothing happened. I'm not sure what else to
do. Right clicking on the buttons don't give any options either which really
surprises me as the menu would be much better in an applications menu rather
than a new programmed menu...
If anyone can point out what I have missed in installing cromevox please let
me know!
One more thing I just noticed is that not only is the "To activate press
spacebar" not correct, but the "To move through items press up or down
arrow" is broken as well. To move between the store, YouTube, Google drive
and all those apps uses the left and right arrows when the tag says up and
down arrows. But I really like that feature!
Another thing is when arrowing through the store with NVDA, I get stuck on
all these really long link names that look like addresses that I have no
idea what they are.
I was able to find the link for adding Chromevox to chrome in the store, but
I didn't realize there was a separate tab for the store, search, youtube and
whatnot to begin with.
This is when that google instant thing would be nice... I also can't arrow
through the characters in the search box with Jaws.
I'm using Jaws 11 on a windows 7 with the latest chrome I believe... I don't
know where to check the chrome version. I also have the latest NVDA.
Thanks,

Brandon Keith Biggs

Hello,
In fiddling around with Chrome some more, I'm noticing a very strange thing.
Chrome is allowing Jaws to grab info from other scripts that are running in
the back ground.
For Example, I have the Lime Aloud scripts from Dancing Dots running in the
back ground with a piece up. When I am tabbing around, Jaws announces info
about my score even though Lime is two windows away from Chrome. This may be
part of the problem when using the Chromevox key. There are applications
that remove most key commands. I know this kind of thing is not hard to do
because audio game developers do it all the time. But with Chrome being
almost the equivalent of a new computer, I think it would be a great benefit
if Chrome took control like this and became a complete interface, rather
than just a week window.
Thanks,

Hello,
A couple things:
I found the following instructions worked with installing Chromevox:
you can use NVDA to install
extensions. When the install Extension window opens, do NVDA+NumPad Minus
to get the focus, then NVDA+NumPad five to get to the right region, then
NVDA+NumPad 2 to get to the graphic. Then NVDA+NumPad six until you reach
the two buttons at the bottom of the window. The first of those is the
install button. Do NVDA+NumPad Divide to route the mouse and then NumPad
Divide to left click and you're golden.

Say that ten times fast... I may suggest using NVDA or voiceover with
scripts for chrome, the amount of things I am seeing with chromevox that are
awkward or that need fixing are rather extreme, where as NVDA reads with
only a few difficulties and uses python scripts, so the language wouldn't be
too hard for android programmer's to learn...
First after the voice needing to be updated is probably something I can fix
but am not sure how.
I want to be able to change level navigation with my left hand. can I make
the level navigation keys be q and w? Or alias 1 to be character navigation,
2 be section navigation and 3 be line navigation and 4 be word navigation?
Also, is there a way to get into typing mode with Chromevox? In the tutorial
it says to type the imaginary word into the box. but, when I try to type I'm
jumping around the screen like a novice screen reader user! The tutorial
does not say how to get into typing mode.
What I could see happening with Chromevox is:
Basic functionality, moving through the text and links on a page as well as
going through menus is all done through NVDA or Jaws. Chromevox with the
same synthesizer would then basically be a script feel for accessing complex
dialogues like the dialogue for installing Chromevox. This would allow
Chrome programmer's and website creators to easily script screen reader
access for their applications without really needing to understand how the
screen reader works.
If this is not the place to suggest features like this please let me know.
Thank you,
