I am loving this update.  Spiffy new tablet/phone friendly interface!  You can pop a passage over the main text temporarily and it can have links.  I like the menu is now permanent across the bottom, the contents of which be changed on the fly within passages.  I *really* like that you can drag a passage over another and it will group them into a stack -- that will really save on arrow clutter.

The docs refer to "main picture"...is that something that will pop out after the Start passage like a book cover, or is that so each passage can have an illustration that displays before the text?

A book cover is pop up only once, after you start or restart a story. Main picture - is an illustration that displays before the text in phone template. In tablet and desktop templates main picture displays in separate block near menu block. Click/tap at this block lets you enlarge the image.

Are any of the feature Hanon mentioned in the first post available in the desktop mode? If so, how do you drag and drop onto another link and have pop-up windows with links?

Thank You

The features are the same in any mode. But templates for mobile/desktop are different. Just try to change your browser window size and you'll see how it works :)

Drag and drop? There is no such feature.

Sorry if what I said was confusing.  In the desktop IDE where you create the game, you can drag passage blocks onto each other and they will stack.  A number will appear in the corner showing how many passages are in the stack.  When you click a stack, a box will pop up so you can select one passage, or ungroup them.

Regarding the "book cover" type image:  I got to experiment last night and was able to get a picture in the sidebar area which is very nice.  Haven't tried, but I guess you can change it within a passage so there can be some atmosphere art for different areas, or it can be a persistent logo for the game.

I noticed in the user manual (done with AXMA) it seems like you get the Title/Subtitle/Author pop up, then there's a big AXMA logo that pops out.  Is that a separate function, or is it just a passage displayed with the [[*passage]] that contains that picture somehow?

The pop-over windows are very nice.  You just use an asterisk (*) before the link to a passage, such as [[*Look at the house]] the same way you'd use a + to add a passage to another without clearing the screen.  A click on nothing will dismiss it and return to the main text, or if there are links within the popup, the player can select them.

The big Axma logo that pops out is a separate function (macros "picture"):

Is that a special opening picture, or is it any picture in a passage?  Is that how it works?  It shows the picture and then removes it instead of putting it in the middle of text?

AXMA gets better and better.  Can you tell if V3 is close to completion or not?  Is it realistic to expect it by the end of the year, or is Spring more likely?

Sounds good!  Some of the menus of the English manual are still in Russian at the moment.

  • Added scrolling screen in visual mode.
I don't understand the "scrolling screen", but perhaps it will be clear when I get to download the new editor version and look at it.
  • Now you can work with sound (see macro sound).
This is great!  Can an individual sound play over background music at the same time?

  • Now you can work with sprites (see macros image and sprite).
This sounds really useful.  I hope there might be some more documentation about it eventually.
The use for this would seem to be to display a visual map and perhaps movable markers on it.
When you say the canvas is 500x500 - is that the entire screen?
If we wanted a map background image, for example, would it work best to do it at 500x500 pixels, and then create a marker, say 10x10...the coordinates in the code are anchoring a sprite at the upper left corner I'm guessing?
It would be nice if you might eventually show examples of how "500x500" relates to the entire screen and some examples of where things will actually go and optimal images sizes.  Perhaps a grid template of some type?

Mind-blowing update! I was using the old AXMA editor (version 2) and was pleasantly surprised with the sleek minimalist interface. The biggest shock was when I test run my story and saw how different everything is now! Coooool.

Just as a minor suggestion - you might want to unpin this and put the 5.0 discussion as the top pinned post.
