"Requirements Analysis / Definition (MBS Projects most important
phase)
This phase has a very clear and critical set of objectives, despite
the fact that it is often the most under appreciated and misunderstood
aspect of the project. Essentially, the phase objective is to reach a
low level documentation of application deployment objectives that is
agreed upon.
Document the project objectives through application of industry
standard requirements analysis techniques, customized for each
project. Then, ask customers project team to commit to those
objectives.
Projects lacking phase one design documents often experience iterative
loops through the implementation activities outlines as the project
team attempts to hit moving requirements targets through rapid fire
attempts at configuration, training, report writing, data conversion,
etc. Fixing the list of requirements during the requirements analysis
phase therefore represents a prime opportunity to manage the project's
cost and delivery date.
