Chaps,

We are wanting to migrate a whole load of existing systems into AWS,
initially Windows machines already installed with a whole load of
software and attached db's. I don't really want the pain of
reinstalling the core softeware and attaching the db's later as it's
too slow/costly. Is there a way of doing this? I can't find any
clear answers in the AWS forums, unless someone can point me at one.

Word on the street is that you can't bundle a Windows AMI, only create one from another Windows AMI. You might be able to fool an instance into booting with new drivers with a P2P (V2V?)-like function, such as what DoubleTake claim they can do in this post.

Restrictive licenses are a pain in the Cloud. I'd spend a lot of energy to get it to work on a Linux box, if at all possible.
