Hi Duncan,

Yes the ip gets dissociated, but when you start a new instance you just associate your elastic ip to the instance again

Subject: [AWSUG.com] DNS configuration
Date: Sun, May 12, 2013 20:33

Hi There,

I have an instance of R2008 which I have configured and I stop and start it regularly. I also have a domain name which I have registered with a third party.

What I would like to do is to point that instance of R2008 to my domain name, such that everytime I start the instance, the DNS is somehow updated to reflect the new IP address.

One solution is to use elastic IP but I have found out that if you stop the instance and restart it, then the association between the elastic IP and the instance is lost (ie. a new IP address is allocated to the instance).

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Duncan

Hi Duncan

Back in March this year AWS started rolling out the default VPC services for all new customers... See link below...

Using a VPC means the level of control you are granted to configuration of your environment is greatly improved.

If at all possible, I would always recommend utilising VPC services where ever possible.

If you need any further help, don't hesitate to ask.
