Jolo: 97 and 98-Point Winners
Westgate Wine of Raleigh NC

Superstar North Carolina Wine Tasting & Sale

Jolo: 97 and 98-Point Winners

If you don’t know Jolo, you should. They have quite simply set a new standard for North Carolina wines. Indeed, one wine writer has compared their extraordinary success in wine competitions to the Judgment of Paris tasting.

But in this case, it’s North Carolina wines beating the best from California and elsewhere.

They also enjoy a huge local following, as they should. So to accommodate as many Jolo fans as possible, we are doing our Jolo tasting on Tuesday, October 24th a bit differently – in two parts:

• Part I will be a casual, standing tasting, from 5:00 to 6:15. You can come anytime during this time frame, but we will finish at 6:15. Tickets to this are $15 in advance or $18 the day of. Just click here, or let us know and we will do it for you.

• Part II will be a seated, educational tasting, from 6:30 to 7:30. Tickets for this are $20 in advance or $30 the day of. Just click here, or let us know and we’ll do it for you. This seating will be limited.

We will be trying the complete current range from Jolo, but we currently have these three highlights in stock – and all at the best prices anywhere: the 97-point, multiple award winning Twinkles Sparkling Rosé, the 98-point (and amazing!) Crimson Creek Chambourcin and the 97-point Jolotage Cabernet blend.

2022 Jolo Crimson Creek Chambourcin

reg. $49 / $39.99 sale

• A great specialty of Jolo.

• It’s hard to believe a North Carolina wine could be this beautiful…but it is.

This has won no less than eight major wine competitions, including most recently the International Eastern Wine Competition in California, with a whopping 98-point score.

The winery says:

If you like Pinot Noir you should really like this Crimson Creek. Our Yadkin Valley Chambourcin is from a single a lot of vines planted by friends and family with love. Chambourcin is a French American hybrid and is also grown in the Loire Valley of France. This dry red wine with handcrafted in the French tradition. This exceptional wine was made in limited quantities in the care of passion taken in winemaking at JOLO Winery & Vineyards.

This complex wine boasts alluring notes of cherry, red fruit, spice, and mocha. A juicy palate of berries, baking spice and herbs are framed by polished tannins and vibrancy that brings a lasting and elegant finish

When I first tasted this, two things occurred:

1.) This beats just about any red Burgundy (or Pinot Noir) at its price; and

2.) If these guys were in Burgundy, they’d be international superstars – not just local cult favorites.

This top-rated 2022 is otherwise only available at the winery, for $49, though Total has the 2021 vintage at $44.99.

2022 Jolo Jolotage

reg. $42 / $34.99 sale

• A North Carolina Cabernet blend that routinely beats those from California and elsewhere.

 • For what it is, this one is especially fairly priced.

A dazzling blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon with Chambourcin, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and 2% Merlot.

This has won even more competitions, including one in Sonoma with a 97-point score (and Double gold Medal and Best in Class).

The winery says:

This opulent red blend offers seducing aromas of fresh picked blackberries, cherry cordial, and cedar, laced with hints of violets & spice. The palate possesses a luxurious structure of dark fruit & spice framed by a rich dense finish of smokey oak and plush tannins with a freshness of acidity and palate warmth.

 Another big winner here.

2022 Jolo Twinkles Sparkling Rosé

reg. $39 / $29.99 sale

• A gorgeous sparkling Rosé.

• The only other place to buy this is at the winery, for $39.

This won Best in Class with 97 points in the Experience Rosé Wine Competition in California, among a half-dozen other shows (including the prestigious San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition).

The winery says:

This crisp, well balanced and refreshing sparkling wine is layered with vibrant aromas of strawberry tops, melon, white flowers, and citrus zest. On the finish, hints of peach skin and pink grapefruit dance on the palate ending with a twinkle of citrus. This is a very enjoyable sparkling wine alone but also pairs well with shellfish, caviar, seafood, chicken, roasted pork, pâté, and eggs. This sparkling wine should be consumed within the next 7-10 years to savor the balance of fruit and acidity.

Varietal: 73% Traminette, 17% Zinfandel, 10% Vidal Blanc

Like all of these wines, just a beauty!
