Hi Fellow Brighton writers - I'm looking to commission some freelance work out.

I run Red Setter, a PR agency based on Trafalgar Street in central Brighton. www.redsetter.co.uk

All of our clients are design, branding, marketing agencies - mostly London-based and across all sectors - and our work for them is heavily led by editorial. For each we produce  a quarterly or monthly piece of thought leadership - an article of 800-1200 words that showcases their thinking and/or work in a given sector.

My aim is to work with the best freelance writers in each sector - for example, many of our clients focus on the drinks sector, and so we have for many months worked with the excellent and multi-award-winning Nina Caplan to produce articles with those clients. She understands that sector so is able to talk to our clients about consumer trends, to talk the sector language, and ultimately to produce articles that have cut-through to editors and marketers in that sector.

I'm looking to expand my bank of outstanding writers, and so am wondering if any of the many excellent writers in our city could be interested.

Each commission involves helping scope out consumer trends, offering thoughts on topics, then interviewing the client (by phone or ideally in person), and writing 800-1200 words. We are able to pay £250 per commission. Ideally we assign a writer to a client, so this can result in an ongoing monthly arrangement.

I have several on my desk that I would like to commission out now, and I am looking for people who are demonstrable experts in a particular sector, can impress my clients and produce brilliant articles, and who will be fun for us to work with.

If you're interested please get in touch with a quick backgrounder on yourself, ideally a few examples of your writing, and info on your particular specialisations.

Dear Alex,

Hope this mail finds you well.

I'm replying to your mail requesting freelance writers.

I have over 15 years' experience as a copywriter/writer/editor and am based in North Laine.

I've written four books - and edited over 70 - and would say my specialised areas are travel, football and Brighton & Hove.

I regularly write for Mastercard's Love This City site (although it's on London and am Brighton through and through!). I've written hundreds of human interest pieces for Albion in the Community on a broad range of subjects including unemployment, beating cancer, breaking a world record, days out for disabled children, back-to-work initiatives, CSR, AIDS awareness...

I had a column in the Brighton & Hove Independent until recently.

I can say with confidence that I can write about anything.

I've attached my editing (writing) CV for your perusal.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration and please let me know if you require further information.

All the best,

Dan Tester

Hi Alex,

I hope you don’t mind me answering this call. I’m a copywriter with some (hopefully) useful experience, but not Brighton based, so if this counts me out then no worries.

I’m London based, write primarily for healthcare and also have a lot of knowledge about music, so if you ever have need for either of those two areas then do let me know.

A quick summary:

I’m comfortable conducting phone interviews and turning this into content, having done this regularly for the recruitment website I also blog for.

Again, don't worry if my non-Brighton-ness counts me out, but I thought it would be silly not to reply to your email.

All the best,
Adam
