say "hello" to each other - we are the current members of the
awkcookbook team.
this email is about our current progress and plans.
our goals for march 2010 were:
0) get the version control working
1) bring up the site
2) try a few test entries
3) work out some bugs
4) attract some members.
i'm pleased to report that we're doing well on 0,1,2,3,4 (see below).
yeah team!
but for april, maybe we should spend more time practicing our
reviewing methods rather than cranking our new pages. for my part, i
am reading folks stuff and writing comments using
http://code.google.com/p/awk/source/browse/#svn/trunk/content. but we
need to somehow divide that work up.
!!!!!!!!!! suggestions anyone on how to organize the
reviewing ?????????
after that, here's one possible timetable (but what say you all?):
- for may, once we've got the reviewing nutted out (in april), we can
do a big push for new members
- for xmas 2010, we can target, say, 200 reviewed recipes

p.s. progress report details:
------------
000 get the version control working 00000000000000000
i've placed everything in subversion and awk.googlecode.com. i've
checked out/updated this stuff on two macs and two debian sites
(linked via svn).
so this seems to be working
------------
111 bring up the site 1111111111111111111111111111
the site is running. see http://awkcookbook.info
all the source code (minus the test suite stuff) now compiles into one
cookbook.awk file (available via the "download" button top left of
each page)
the test engine is now working: see http://awkcookbook.info/?testSuite
for a live demo of the test suite. note that it may take a few seconds
to load as it runs the tests; and that one of panos' shuffle deck
demos fails cause the random number generation seems to be different
mac to linux (guess we'll just have to live with that)
------------
222 try a few test entries 2222222222222222222222222
we currently have 72 pages, of which 20-30 are admin or tutorial pages
and the rest are real recipies
not bad for a few weeks work!
------------
333 debug some stuff 3333333333333333333333333333
my doco is getting better but the explanations of the site are still a
little complex for newbies. suggestions anyone?

444 attract some members 4444444444444444444444444
we how have six members:
- two folks who want to be reviewers: Michael T. Richter and Lorance
Stinson
- four folks who want to program/review: me, Panos, Mike, Mahesh
of these folks,
- all the programmers have written at least one page
- no comments yet from the reviewers. but then, we haven't really said
how we'll organize that review process. any suggestions?
