CHANDIGARH: In a significant direction, the Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday restrained Delhi Gurgaon Super Connectivity Ltd ( DGSCL), concessionaires of Delhi-Gurgaon expressway from collecting the toll tax at expressway for fifteen days.
The orders would come in force from Tuesday midnight.
The directions have been made by the high court after observing that the concessionaires has failed to avoid traffic chaos and free flow of the traffic on the expressway. With these orders, the concessionaires will not be able to collect any fee on the expressway from the commuters at toll collection point for next fifteen days.
Earlier, the high court had also observed "Toll barrier was to be designed to save both fuel and time. But, neither fuel, nor time, was now being saved and long queues of vehicles on either side of the road were a common sight."
The directions have come after the Gurgaon traffic police had moved Punjab and Haryana high court alleging that the concessionaires are responsible for the chaos at expressway because they do not have requisite staff to deal with the traffic, which results into traffic snarls.
Alleging shortage of manpower with the company, cops had also submitted that the concessionaires do not want to spend for the smoothening of the traffic and only wants to collect money.
