Congrats, guys! Our first show was a success!!! Don't get me wrong, we still have a LOT to work on.If you didn't know, AJ and Myra won't be able to be there for the Tuesday performance and I can only be there around 6:30ish, which is right before mass. Some comments/things to work on from my POV and some audience members:
- ninjas - be aware of some props that might have remained onstage (i.e. Mark's red cup). strike when needed.
- Car scene - when Josh runs by those extras in the aisle, can one of them, or all of them, say "Watch it Jesus freak" loudly.
- Mrs. Emperador - when dragging out Josh, take her time and add more things to her list of punishments to give Chris a little more time to change.
- GATHERING OF THE APOSTLES - this was probably my bad. but the transition between when Fr. Dave become Peter, we added some dialogue between the apostles BEFORE Peter and John the Baptist entered to give Aldren more time to change. so light the apostles right after the blackout after the funeral scene - each group of apostles has a few lines. Also, they need to work on projecting these lines.
- "I will follow Him" - some Aunties suggested to do the song a capella. in general, this song needs a lot more practice so the singers are confident with it and it can be sung strongly. this song isn't merely a background song, it should be the focus.
- Sleazeballs/Jewish leaders - to give them more time to change, we can make the Jesus/crowd/Mary Magdalene new part longer. I believe we already told Ian to practice some more lines. Also, did they have stones? They should drop them when they walk away, then the ninjas can strike.
- Just a suggestion - when Ari and Shannon walk up to Chris and Drew, maybe Drew can say something like "Hey ladies!" then when they put the aprons on, Chris and Drew can say their line "AW COME ON DUDE!"
- Washing of the feet - maybe I didn't see it, but can there be a clear moment when Jesus says "not all, not all of you are clean" and Jesus and Judas look at each other, then Judas look away and acts like the other apostles.
- The timing of when Chris says his "warm and fuzzy" line and when Drew says his "quit being a girl line" - tell Drew (and anyone in general really) to wait for the audience to stop laughing (if they do laugh) then say their line. and make sure Chris' hurt gasp after the "girl" line is audible, too.
- Waitress for Janelle/Josh dinner scene still needs to project more, even if she's trying to catch one of their mics.
- When Janelle goes back to Mark and he's telling the whole cracker jack story, they both need to laugh a lot more. We really need to believe that the story is hilarious to them so that the whole "is it ok that we're laughing" line makes more sense.
- Agony - instead of Josh saying "church freak" can he say "Jesus freak"?
- Malchus - when Jesus heals his ear, can all the apostles and soldiers look at Malchus with wonder or confusion? I mean, a miracle just happened!!! And especially for the soldiers, they should look at Malchus during Jesus' "Have you come out against a robber..." line, like they're not really listening, then Ed (or whichever soldier it is) snaps out of his amazement/confusion and says "that's enough!" 'cause to him, Jesus is just rambling. then all the other soldiers snap back to the job at hand.
- Judas - "What have I done" line. tell him to take even more time with that. i really wanna see his regret and anguish in his face.
- Can we get an ambulance sound for the transition b/w when Drew gets beat up and when he's in the hospital? Also, we need a bedsheet for that hospital scene.
- in general - Jesus keeps fixing his hair, we need to pin it or something.
- Crown of thorns - can we adjust it to fit his head more so it doesn't fall off?
- I couldn't see from where I was sitting, but Josh needs to be lit when he's walking his own Via. he goes from tower to tower, then tower across the baptismal font to the wall. he doesn't need to be lit when he's walking along the back walls.
- When Mary meets Jesus for the Stations, she should run in front of the soldiers, not behind.
- We need a branch/sponge thing for when Jesus is thirsty.
- Should we get a mallet/nails or whatever for the sound of the nailing?
- "Were you there" singers need to give a longer pause of reflection after Jesus dies.
- Mics - Hannah and Mark should have mics. They're loud without it, but when everyone else has a mic, then the balance is off. Since they're not really in any scenes together, they could probably share if we have limited mics.
- A comment from an audience member brought up Hannah's pants? They might be see-through or too tight. Not sure, is she wearing leggings? If so, the bright lights might make it see-through...
- Work on Hannah in general - she has slowing down and projection on point, but she needs to stop focusing on those two and put more focus on being her character.
Sorry guys, I know this is a lot, but PLEASE READ ALL OF IT! And sorry, this won't be the end of my emails. Feel free to add other notes now so we don't forget what we need to work on.
