I've hit a bit of a snag and could really use some help. I've got a bunch of photos in HEIC format, and I'm struggling to view heic files on Windows 10 (and potentially Windows 11) setup. It seems like my current setup just isn't cutting it for these types of files. I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations for a best HEIC viewer that's compatible with Windows 10 or 11? I'm looking for something straightforward and user-friendly since I'm not exactly a tech wizard. Any advice or suggestions would be super appreciated. Thanks in advance!
After a bit of research and trying out a few different applications, I found a couple of solutions that worked well for me. First, I discovered that Microsoft actually offers a HEIC file extension support in the Microsoft Store, which, once installed, it seems doesn't allow me to view HEIC files directly in the Windows Photos app, I don't why.
I also tried out a third-party app called TunesBro HEIC converter. It not only let me view HEIC files seamlessly but also offered the option to convert them to JPG if needed. This was super handy for sharing photos with friends who couldn't view HEIC files or for uploading to websites that only accept JPG.

Encouraged by that success, I also decided to give TunesBro HEIC Converter a shot, especially since I often need to convert photos for sharing with friends and family or for use on websites. The ability to easily convert HEIC files to JPG has been a game changer for me. It's incredibly user-friendly and the batch conversion feature has saved me so much time.
I am thinking of a very simple version of rhino, where users only can Pan, rotate, zoom, measure, turn layers/objects on/off, these kind of things, so basicly only the commands where you cannot change the model.
This is also a nice time-saver for me. I can avoid generating a dozen different screen captures or renderings, and then organizing them into a presentation. I just send out a one page 3D PDF for progress review whenever needed.
I agree totally, it is way to difficult for most clients.
@mcNeel: I think it is good for your business to have some kind of viewer, this is a great way for customers to start working with Rhino on a low level base.
Grabcad Workbench is pretty cool as well. You get 2 projects for free, with some other limitations. This you have to invite other to join the projects. The nice thing about workbench is you can see the assembly structure and do exploded views right on the fly, along with some rudimentary markups and measuring.
They are not without issues though.The PDF preview is never as good as the Rhino viewport, shiny materials etc are never displayed correctly. There is no dimensioning tools. Layer structure is also not very intuitively presented.
Simlab has a free viewer for ios & android which uses their own .ZIM format. While you need to have the Simlab software to create the ZIM file, this has some advantage over using OBJ. Because ZIM is binary, the files are much smaller.

Like myself many here will have no clue how to compile it ourselves.
I have installed Splunk on a Linux box and is listening for incoming on 9997. Our linux boxes send its syslog to it and work fine.
The Windows boxes however do not send any event viewer logs. I installed SplunkForwarder on it and followed the prompts where I entered the Receiver server and port 9997. Also restarted the splunk service just in case.
What additional configurations are to be done to ensure Event Viewer logs/AD monitoring start to populate my Splunk sitting on the Linux box.
I'm able to telnet to 9997 from Windows to Linux so it is not an access issue.
Hey, I am wondoring How Can I send Log files from linux to windows? I downloaded splunk in windows and forwarder in linux. I can telnet 9997 from linux to windows but I don't know how to send a files. can anybody help me with it?

It is not stricte Affinity topic but kinda related. I'm using Fast Stone Image Viewer in my "workflow" and I'm addicted by simplicity of this software and full-screen preview which is very importand thing for me. BUT this soft does not support viewing of Affinity formats (any vector formats btw) and since Designer is my number one weapon I'm looking for something with ability to display at least THUMBNAILS of graphic files (like Windows file explorer do).
OK - i know I'm maybe demanding so it is not even neccesary to opening files by viewer but i want to see thumbnails to have ensurance the folder with Affinity files is not empty when I'm browsing files with image viewer.
Thanks for reply. Yes, I'm using Explorer sometimes but generally I prefer Total Commander as a file manager and Faststone Image Viewer as photo/image browser. TC is able to show thumbnails but FIV is very, very convenient if I need to browse images (and does not show Affinity files at all).
for those using a Mac or Windows and with RAW photo files, I use FastRawViewer. It is especially helpful for analyzing images. By using the R key as a shortcut it will open your image in Photo's Develop Persona ( this is set in the preferences of FastRawViewer ). You can view JPG's as well. It is about $30 CAN

Try MightyViewer, our Multi VNC Viewer for Windows. It shows many live remote desktops together, allowing to take over one of them when needed. Use it for monitoring computer classes, controlling factory hardware, managing remote desktops, administering users' PCs, and so on.
Those do add this app into the Open list, but none of them can set FoxitReader as the default PDF viewer.
When I double click the pdf file, it still ask me to choose an app to open it instead of opening it directly in FoxitReader.
The default application is in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.pdf\UserChoice . As you state, OpenWithList gives all the choices registered for this filetype. In the example below, it points to PDFXCview.exe, rather than Foxit.
Note that Applications\PDFXCview.exe uses indirection, not the absolute path to the executable. Applications\PDFXCview.exe, in turn, is defined in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\PDFXCview.exe and referenced in \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ApplicationAssociationToasts. A similar association should be set for each installed application, including Foxit.
Under HKCR, locate the registry key for the file extension you are intersted in (.pdf). Under that key should be a string value named "(Default)". Open that value to specify the program ID of the program you want to be the default app for that file type.
