A meeting for existing members of AWAZ was organised on Wednesday, 28th of September 2011 at 1:30 PM in the Faculty of Law lawns. The meeting was chaired by Convenor Nisha. Members present:
Junaid
Anubhav
Vivek
Anurag
Lipi
Kamlesh
The Chair expressed her disappointment at the lack of communication between AWAZ members and stressed the importance of regular interaction between all members so as to create a sense of team spirit within the group.
For this above purpose, the Chair proposed a resolution making it necessary for AWAZ to convene a meeting once a week. After due deliberation, the day, time and venue of this weekly meeting were fixed as Wednesday, 1:30 and Faculty of Law lawns. The proposal was unanimously adopted by all members present by a simple vote.
Thereafter, the Chair urged members to be punctual for meetings and requested all to inform any of the organising body - the Convenor or any of the two Co-Convenors - in advance should they be unable to attend any particular meeting.
Moving on, the Chair, in conjunction with Vivek, acquainted the meeting with developments regarding booking of CLC's seminar room for the proposed AWAZ talk. The matter has been forwarded to relevant Law Faculty authorities through the Legal Aid Society of the same and apparently a final decision will be taken after the forthcoming vacations. The date for this talk as of now is tentatively 15th October.
Thereafter, the Chair put forward a motion to distribute AWAZ Times 2011 to new members as well as to the student community at large, arguing that the group needn't wait till the talk for the same to be launched. This was contested by Vivek and Anubhav who argued that since we have waited so long - even if pointlessly as the latter pointed out - to do this, we might as well as wait a few more days. After some discussion, it was decided to make copies of AWAZ Times 2011 available to new members. All of these can collect the same from Nisha and deposit rupees ten for the same.
At this stage, Vivek informed the group of the forthcoming dharna for better implementation of the provisions of the RTE Act, 2009 being organised on the 9th of October, 2011 at Rajghat, New Delhi from 10 Am to 1 PM. This dharna is being organised by the All India Parents Association along with Social Jurists; advocate Ashok Agarwal figures as one of the major organisers of the same. This protest is demanding upgradation of all government schools all over the country to the level of Central Schools and enactment of central law to regulate fees in unaided private schools. AWAZ unanimously decided to support this cause and make and put up posters for the said dharna in as many places as possible in North Campus as well as to publicise the same through social networking.
Vivek took leave from the Chair to leave the meeting for his class. He was granted permission.
Anubhav urged the meeting to deliberate upon topics for filing RTIs, qualifying further by suggesting such topics be suggested which could be constructively utilised for some larger purpose thereafter. The following topics were suggested by various members:
a) Powers and duties of DUSU members (Kamlesh)
b) Funding of and for central and/or national law universities/institutes/faculties (Anurag)
c) Girls Hostels in DU (Lipi)
d) Anonymous Law Faculty
e) Admission policy in Law Faculty (Anubhav)
f) JNU's IR entrance exam's details (Junaid)
g) Percentage of hostels for students in central universities with sub clause regarding number of seats reserved for Law Faculty students in Jubilee Hall and their distribution criteria (Nisha)
Tentatively, bracketed members will be responsible for filing these RTIs, though it was decided that all would pitch in and share their research to formulate evocative queries that would generate optimum response. It was further decided that these RTIs would be filed after the forthcoming October vacations, during which members will do research and formulate queries.
No other matter remaining, the meeting was dissolved at 3:00 PM. The next meeting will be on the 12th of October, 2011 at 1:30 PM in the Faculty of Law lawns.
