Greetings AWARE-LA,

We had a wonderful gathering yesterday for our annual AWARE social. Many thanks to Ken, Debbie, Lisa, and Julia for hosting us so graciously and filling our bellies with delicious food. Many thanks to all who came, broke bread, brought delicious additions, and made for great company. It was a beautiful day and a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

We are going to keep reminding you about October, because it is our last scheduled Saturday Dialogue. We are in the midst of a major transition as our capacity is seriously reduced and the lower turnouts at the SDs suggest the need for a change of format. Now, maybe more than ever, we want to call upon this community to come together on Oct. 1 from 1-4pm for a special celebration of our 8th Year Anniversary and to discuss the future of our work, including how best to continue to make dialogue space available for white anti-racists in Los Angeles. If we haven't seen you for a while, we would love to see you then!

A few upcoming events from Michael Novack:

1)  Jericho Amnesty Movement monthly meeting (Third Saturday) Sept. 17, 5 PM So Cal Library, 6120 S. vermont

2) KPFK Listeners' Town Hall meeting, Sunday Sept 18, 3-6 PM, 9635 Venice in Culver City

3) Dorothy Roberts presentation and book release, Thurs. Sept 22, 7-9 PM, Ms. Magazine, 433 S Beverly Dr, BH (see below)

Fatal Invention
How Science, Politics, and Big Business
Re-create Race in the Twenty-first Century

Fatal Invention is a major new work on the frontier of race and genetics by acclaimed author Dorothy Roberts, whose book Killing the Black Body revolutionized our understanding of ethnicity and the politics of reproduction and made Roberts an icon in the field.

She will discuss her book and thought-provoking work followed by a Q&A; books will be sold and signed after the discussion.

These events will be of special interest to activists, scholars and all others concerned about social, racial and reproductive justice.
