Hi AWARE-LA community,
Exciting times to be involved with AWARE! We had a great discussion in November on white antiracist identity, community, and multiracial movement-building, and made the decision to begin hosting rotating regional meetings for AWARE's monthly Saturday Dialogue for white anti-racists. This will allow us to bring AWARE to more areas of Los Angeles, and to reach our members in the neighborhoods and communities where we all are!
Our first regional Saturday Dialogue meeting will be on Saturday, December 3rd meeting and will be held in West Los Angeles, hosted by Shelly. To RSVP for this dialogue please contact us on the AWARE website and we'll send you the address and directions. The January 7th Saturday Dialogue will be held in Thousand Oaks, and hosted by Matt and Jenn.
In preparation for these dialogues, and to continue the outreach and organizing work of our Active Resistance workgroup, and our educational work of the Workshop Planning Group, we will be holding another Volunteer Dialogue this month. Participants from last month expressed Volunteer Dialogue as a great space to build on the development of self and community that occurs in Saturday Dialogue. Volunteer Dialogues focuses on the development of the organization of AWARE-LA, and exists to support and connect all the amazing volunteers that keep AWARE going!
The next Volunteer Dialogue will occur this Sunday, November 20th from 1-4PM at Occupy Los Angeles (1st and Spring Street, City Hall) in downtown Los Angeles (http://occupylosangeles.org). We will be meeting near the northside City Hall steps (on Temple, halfway between Spring and Main). Public transportation is recommended, but public parking is available for around $5. We will be welcoming new members from Occupy LA and offering our space as a resource and support to the continuing conversations in Occupy about how to unite the 99% in terms both economic justice and racial justice. White people and people of color are welcome to join us for this Volunteer Dialogue. We welcome anyone interested in volunteering to support the work of AWARE-LA within and beyond Occupy LA to nurture, support, and grow a visible and audible presence of white anti-racists in Los Angeles and the U.S.!
