Greetings AWARE-LA,

Join us for a conversation this weekend at the Saturday Dialogue. As always, we will be meeting from 1-4pm at the Los Feliz Metroplitan Community Church (MCC-LA) at 4953 Franklin Ave. We will have a much more informal dialogue space. Everyone will have a chance to share about whatever is going on in their lives related to race and whiteness, with opportunities to gain feedback, support, or resources.

A few more announcements:

Also, Adrienne Sweetwater has completed her thesis on the transnational implications of white anti-racism and its potential for creating social change. It is attached if you would like to read it. It is based in large part on her participation in Saturday Dialogues, interviews with AWARE-LA / Saturday Dialogue members, and tons of research. Adrienne notes, "I wanted to name a few things, firstly that I really struggled with issues of representation of AWARE and AWARE's members, especially in dialogue with the academic theory i employed.  I hope that text reads as a conversation rather than a critique.  I want to make sure you and other AWARE members know that I am very open and would welcome further dialogue and questions." She would also like for those who she interviewed to know that she will be in touch this summer and will send you the transcripts of your interview.

The work of Hand-in-Hand and the Domestic Workers Alliance continues. As the legislation makes its way through the political combine, the work of garnering support for the bill and of transforming the culture of domestic work and employee practices continues. There are a few house meetings being planned which will provide some structured, safe, and insightful space for employers of domestic workers (nannies, house cleaners, care givers) to dialogue about their experiences, learn more about progressive practices, and seek support in developing better relationships with the folks who work within their homes. If you are interested in attending, please let me know - jason....@gmail.com.
