AWARE family and friends!

Wow, if you have not heard we are in a movement moment. The Occupy Wall Street protests in New York City (http://occupywallst.org) have spread to Los Angeles (http://occupylosangeles.org) and over 200 other solidarity actions across the U.S.(http://t.co/4PoPrGm1). People are proudly exclaiming, "We are the 99%!" and offering critiques of institutions that divide and conquer people and the earth based on class, race, gender, and sexuality. This movement is imaging a different world by gathering, relationship-building and movement-making. Much like AWARE! We have the unprecedented opportunity to connect our community to other communities in LA through this inspiring moment!

Join the AWARE community, tomorrow, Saturday 10/8 from 1-3PM as we join the celebration of the movement at an #OccupyLA Music Festival at City Hall in Downtown Los Angeles. There will be food, fellowship, and of course movement-building. Friends, family, acquaintances, white and of color, are of course all invited! Creative signs, T-shirts, etc. encouraged. Need ideas? #OccupyRacism has become a popular hashtag just this week! Or... The 99% Cares About Racial Justice!

We will be meeting at 1PM at the #OccupyLA Welcome Tent (in the middle of the lawn on the North Side, Spring Street and Temple Street, near City Hall in Downtown Los Angeles). Map: http://tinyurl.com/AWARESatMeetUp. Public transportation encouraged, as hundreds of people have been showing up to connect with one another over the past week.

Please email: jebmidd...@gmail.com or text: 510-290-5428 if you plan to attend so we can look for you.

An article discussing more on the #OccupyWallStreet movement, and offering one AWARE member's perspective here: http://www.awarela.org/2011/10/06/occupyracism-in-solidarity-with-occupywallstreet/ We invite other people's blog posts and thoughts as well; about this or other topics.
