[AWARE-LA] Important Reminder - Last Saturday Dialogue This Weekend!

Hello AWARE-LA Community:

   This Saturday is a very special day for our community and the future of our shared purpose and time together. On Saturday, Oct. 1, we will gather for our last scheduled Saturday Dialogue. It will be a joyous celebration of our 8th Year Anniversary and we will honor all of the amazing individual and collective journeying and work we have done. The White Anti-racist movement and network across this country has been influenced dramatically through its dialogues and exchanges with members of AWARE. I can't tell you how many times I have talked with folks doing this work in other parts of the country, who when I tell them I do anti-racist work in LA, ask me: "are you a part of AWARE?" That is a testament to the strength of our conviction as a community, our dedication to this work as individual souls, and the power of collectivizing our unique experiences in the sometimes murky, sometimes perplexing, and always relevant world of race in the United States. 

   Please join us to celebrate and honor this history we have created. We are calling on all our members to hold that space with us. 

   

   This Saturday is also a special day because we will be figuring out the future. Key members of our facilitation team are needing to step down and tend to other transitions and responsibilities in our lives. Our dialogues have had smaller turnouts recently, yet they continue to be incredibly timely, relevant, intimate, and productive for those who can make it. This signals to us a need for a transition. The way we have been hosting and coordinating Saturday Dialogues will no longer continue, and it is time to figure out what the members of this community want to do from now on to stay connected, continue the dialogue, and work for systemic change as active white anti-racists. There are decisions to be made this Saturday and we want to make them together.

    So please join us to make key decisions and shape this transition. We are calling on all our members to hold that space with us.

   We will be meeting at our regular location: the MCC-LA church at 4953 Franklin Ave, Los Angeles, 90027 in Los Feliz. We will be together from 1-4pm. Please come early or on time, feel encouraged but not obligated to bring a snack to share, and bring your memories.
