Panelists will outline some of the challenges that undocumented Latino, Asian, and other immigrant students face as they seek to carve out a better life for themselves and contribute to their local communities. They will discuss student-led efforts to fight for the California DREAM Act, and the implications of this legislation for immigrant incorporation.

Research shows that low-income immigrant and other youth of color often lack opportunities for sustained political engagement. This panel will explore strategies for and barriers to involving diverse youth in campaigns to impact policies and programs in their own communities. Participants will discuss the implications of youth organizing for multi-ethnic/multi-racial coalition-building and grassroots leadership development.
