AWARE-LA tabling/facilitating at Tim Wise & Privilege Events at Occidental College, 11/15-11/16

Hi AWARE-LA community,

Occidental College in Los Angeles has invited AWARE-LA members to be part of the conversation, resource-sharing, and facilitation at this year's Privilege Week (please see email below). More info: http://www.oxy.edu/x11966.xml 

The Intercultural Center at Occidental has invited AWARE-LA to table prior to and after the keynote by Tim Wise on Tuesday evening, and to help facilitate a campus dialogue on Wednesday. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in getting support and experience with community organizing and/or dialogue facilitation; and is the beginnings of an exciting longer term partnership with Occidental to build campus/community collaborations for racial justice in Los Angeles.

It was great talking with you. I look forward to partnering together throughout the week following Tim's talk. I would like to invitee you to meet at our Intercultural Community Center at 6pm tomorrow. Tim and the rest of our  staff will be getting ready for the event, and we can walk over together where he will be speaking. We will set your table up next to ours. Community members will get to view your material before the talk and after while Tim is signing books.

 

For Wednesday Nov 16th, you and your colleagues are invited to meet me for coffee in the ICC at 4:30 to discuss the co-facilitation workshop at 6pm that evening. As I mentioned on the phone, this will be a fairly informal space to help students reflect and direct to further resources.

I am writing to see if an organizer or two from AWARE-LA might table and offer free resources to Occidental College students and staff at the Three Events on Privilege this week (http://www.oxy.edu/x11966.xml), beginning with Tim Wise's talk on Tuesday, November 15th? Many Occidental students have worked with AWARE-LA, and we see this as an amazing opportunity to continue to connect campus and community work for an antiracism and racial justice.
