The hardest situation to understand is when the truth has been bent or twisted to seem believable, but is actually untrue. It looks like the truth, smells like the truth, but it's not.
Your own intuition is the best guide to detecting lies, so listen to that gut feeling! But it's much harder to detect lies that people actually believe for themselves: this is when we need independent verification.
How do we fight for the truth? By never ceasing to ask questions of anyone, no matter who they are. We each have the right to know the truth, in any situation that affects us directly.
Understanding the truth requires knowledge - information - facts. By having as many of the facts as we can get our hands on, from as many independent sources as possible, we empower ourselves.
If someone stands in your way of getting to the truth, you must ask them 'why?'. Because any who stand in your way of getting to the truth, or tell you not to look, are breaking the keys of perfect love and perfect trust. The easiest thing for a deceiver to do is to deflect your questions - change the subject, or confuse you with their answers, or tell you that you wouldn't understand. If you come away feeling unsatisfied then you're probably not getting the answers you're looking for, and this should ring alarm bells.
The Path is entirely based on truth, and therefore justice, for without truth we have nothing but a charade. This requires courage, both to speak the truth, and to ask for it, and to listen.
Deception is a negative energy that invariably comes round to bite you on the bum, and usually brings down everyone else with it. That's why the truth is worth fighting for.
