I coded up a shell script to download AVSpeech dataset, and I am happy to share it with anyone who's interested in using the dataset.

It is important to use the latest versions of youtube-dl and ffmpeg. It has been tested in Ubuntu 16.04, but should also work in any other Unix-like OSes.

Feel free to reply here or post an issue at github if you have any questions or suggestions. Enjoy.

Hi Changil
Thank you for this valuable code. I noticed that in the last few seconds of many resulting clips the video is frozen. Do you found this in running that code?
Thank you again

I believe that's because of a video player that doesn't handle the negative start time properly. I saw that some players indeed started playing video clips from the correct position with the negative start time taken into account but didn't know that the video had finished already and kept showing the last frame, suggesting that they didn't calculate the total length correctly. When I transcoded video clips to other formats like wav and jpeg they all looked ok though. Hope this helps.

Hello, ,

I tried to download the AVspeech, however, I often got errors" HTTP Error 429: Too many requests ...."

I searched online regarding this issue, and it seems that I will need to request the service for whitelist my IP. Can somebody please let me know, whom I should contact in order to whitelist my IP address?

Or is there any other way to avoid this issue and download the dataset?

Thanks,
Susan
