Meeting held at ACAWS. Commenced at 1:05
In Attendance: Pat Kermeen,, Patty Edwards, Ron Jorgenson, Janis Nairne, Laurie Money, Ellen Frood.
1) Treasures Report – Ron
- Chq written for $2,060.00 Interest: 11centa. For a Balance of $13,567.46 (In Trust $12,800.00 plus $767.46). Other funds: Indicator project $5,000.00 plus Savings $5.13 – Motion to accept report laurie, Second: Ellen – passed
2) Review of Beginnings, Mission, Goals and Structure
- It was felt that the AVSPC’s original Mission needed to be reviewed in anticipation of the new Societies Act requirements. Original material reviewed, discussion as to changes needed. Action: Bylaws need to be added to documents.
2) A discussion on a Social planning Commission in Port Alberni
- The Avspc has been examining the possibility of a Social Planning Commission in the Valley. Discussions have been taking place with the City and research has been taking place how such a Commission could work. (See attached information on examples of Councils/Commissions could work). The AVSPC is working with Scott Smith from the city to possibly do a presentation to City in May and possible creation of Social Planning Commission next December. AVSPC needs to talk to other groups about the Commission idea and seek support.
3) Alberni Valley Community Stakeholder Initiative to end Homelessness - Update AVCSI - Pat
- AVSCI is a sub Committee of the AVSPC. Pat gave update of the many activities the Group is involved in including Housing. Application is for Homeless Strategy Grant was not accepted. AVCSI along with others is sponsoring the film on Homelessness “Us and them” April 5/17 6:00 Echo Centre $10.00 at the door.
4) Date for General Annual meeting
- Date for the AGM will be Monday, April 24/17 1:00 at ACAWS Boardroom. New members needed.
