Dear All
Apologies if I have overstepped the mark, but I thought a survey on Braille was non-political and of relevance to many of our members. It is clear you do not have to be a fluent reader, writer or expert in Braille to participate. Warning, if you tick several boxes in the section regarding your vision and how you are connected to Braille, eg teacher or transcriber, you will need to choose which survey to complete. If you wish to complete all that apply, it seems like you have to go back to the link and start a new one each time, just choosing a different survey when asked.
With best regards
Lisa Jones

This is not a branch circular but an information email. Branch Secretaries should forward it to all their members who have email addresses.
Below is an email received from the World Blind Union (WBU). It contains news of a global survey to give our opinions on the importance of braille and its usage. I think it is important that those of us who use braille take part, so that braille is seen to be an important format internationally for the future.
Dear WBU Members and Partners,
The Global Braille Survey is now open, and we invite you to share your experience and help shape the future of braille literacy worldwide.
As part of the Global Braille Literacy Campaign – More Braille: More Empowerment, the survey aims to strengthen our understanding of how braille is learned, taught, accessed and used, as well as the factors that support or create barriers to braille literacy.
Who can participate?
The survey welcomes responses from:
• Adults aged 18 and over who are blind, have low vision, or are deafblind;
• Parents and guardians of children of any age who are blind, have low vision, or are deafblind;
• Teachers and other professionals involved in braille education; and
• Braille transcribers.
Take the Global Braille Survey:
When you access the survey, you will first select your preferred language and review the informed consent information. You will then be directed to the survey or surveys that are relevant to you. If you are eligible to participate from more than one perspective, you are welcome to complete multiple surveys.
If you require an alternate format to complete the survey, please inquire with us directly.
Available in multiple languages
The Global Braille Survey is currently available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Hungarian, Russian, Slovak and Spanish. Italian and Portuguese translations are awaiting verification and will be available in the near future.
Why your participation matters
Every response helps build a stronger global evidence base on braille literacy. The findings will support advocacy, policy, research, resources and practices aimed at strengthening access to braille literacy around the world.
We encourage you to share the survey widely with your networks and directly with braille users, families, educators, professionals and transcribers who may wish to participate.
Every experience matters. Every perspective adds to the evidence. Every voice can help strengthen the future of braille literacy.
Thank you for helping us make this important global initiative a success.
Warm regards,
The WBU Team
