Before Christmas I bought two boxes of assorted cheese, and was
also given a third one as a present. On the outside of each box
the cheeses contained in it are listed.

Over Christmas I wanted to pick certain types of cheese as a
friend I have staying with me does not like very strong cheeses.
I tried using my Optacon and scanner, but apart from one smoked
cheddar cheese, I could find no writing.

Yesterday my home help came, and I asked her to look at the
cheeses. She confirmed that none of the cheeses has writing on
the wrapper, so, once you have removed the cheeses from the box,
the only way you can identify them is by their looks. Surely,
it's not unreasonable to ask that each pack of cheese should
carry its name, so that when it is removed from the box it can
still be identified.

Yes, it is a pity and an unhelpful omission that your cheese boxes did not have internal labelling. But it wasn't just us that suffered.

I also like cheese and I probably would have enjoyed just taking pot luck from day to day. But I suppose the boxes you got were produced to sell a short-term supply of cheeses and they tried to get away with a list on the outside of the box - an after-thought measure to announce the contents somewhere.

I'm giving up using my optacon now. It has been a great support but I am finding that Seeing AI, an app on my iPhone, is very helpful and can probably read most labels and even correspondence quite cleverly.

I also would be happy to take pot luck at cheese selection.

I am sorry you are giving up the Optacon Karl, but I understand
your reasoning. My Optacon is still first choice for reading
short things. I use it every day.

Hello all,

I particularly like Red Leicester Cheese but also, do enjoy it when away and they have a cheese board on the menu, as you can get a few different cheeses to eat.
