The following is a post from Ron Canazzi reviewing the
TOSHIBA ML-EM34P(SS) Smart Countertop Microwave, Sensor Reheat, Works With
Alexa & Remote Control, Kitchen Essentials, Mute Function&ECO Mode, 1100W,
1.3 Cu Ft, With 12.4" Turntable, Stainless Steel
I'll preface his post with a few comments.
First, I have not used this microwave and so this post should not be taken
as an endorsement. I currently use the
Panasonic NN-SV79MS 1.4 cu.ft Smart Inverter Works with Alexa Countertop
Microwave Oven 1200Watt Power with Genius Sensor Cooking, Stainless Steel
Which has tactile buttons and is compatible with Alexa devices for issuing
voice commands. The Panasonic microwave that I use is a bit more expensive
than the Toshiba unit which is reviewed in this post. If I should be in a
position where I need to purchase a new microwave, I might consider the
Toshiba microwave, although I would want to engage in additional research
before making a decision.
Finally, if Wi-Fi should temporarily stop working, it's possible to continue
using the microwave, provided that your electricity is still working and
that the microwave itself is accessible.
On Saturday, August 30, 2025, I received a TOSHIBA ML-EM34P(SS) Smart
Micro-wave oven. It was referred to me by the Amazon Disability phone
operators. It is totally accessible via a smart phone such as Apple IOS and
a variety of Android phones.
This phone operates using your home WI-Fi. You must first link it via your
Amazon Alexa App or the equivalent Android app to the Amazon Echo device and
Google Play Home device. The set-up is a bit complex if you aren't used to
such things, but at least with the Alexa iPhone app and the smart home app
for Apple devices, both apps are largely accessible. You must first register
your Micro-Wave with the Smart Home app and then link that to the echo
device with the Alexa App.
Once all this is done, you have complete control via voice and the Alexa
device. In the TOSHIBA ML-EM34P(SS) Smart Micro-wave user manual, it gives
you a series of smart commands to issue to your oven. Here's a few
examples:
Alexa: micro-wave for 3 minutes. (by default, the micro-wave will operate
at full power [level ten.]) However you can set the power level as follows:
Alexa: micro-wave for five minutes at power level five. You can also use
the defrost feature as such - Alexa: defrost two pounds of meat.
I have been using this device for over a week and it is great. I don't need
to label the buttons or need any sighted help to operate. Of course I
realize that if the Wi-fi goes out, there would be severe limitations, but
in actuality, if the WI-fi goes down, it probably means the power goes down
as well. This is not a certainty but it is the usual matter in most cases.
I highly recommend this device for blind people who are comfortable about
using the smart home devices. It's dimensions are 1.12 square feet and 1250
watts in power.
At a price of $161 US funds, it is a great device when compared to the
Panasonic low end talking Micro-wave sold by several Blind products
companies which at last check, costs over $400 US funds. The talking
micro-wave is an older model, low end Panasonic as I recall .7 square feet
and less than 1000 watts in power.
